Dometic Refrigerator
Newbie question. Out on our maiden voyage. Does the model RM1350 run off of 12V when towing, or is my only option to run it on propane while towing?

I believe that is a 2 way fridge so it will operate on propane or 110 when plugged in. Your only option while towing will be propane.

12V is needed to power the control board. Depending on what you set it to (auto/LP) will determine what it uses to cool.
Auto: it will always choose 110VAC if it's available, if not AND the propane is turned on it will light the flame and run on LP. When you plug the trailer back in to shore power, the control board will shut off the flow of propane and send 110V to the heating element.
LP mode- it will only operate on LP.
EITHER WAY requires 12V to the control board, most will continue to operate until voltage drops to about 11.4 volts (I think that's the threshold).

Even with just propane for the refrig, should it take over 12 hours to cool down to usable temps? Or is there something wrong with the unit?

Depends on ambient temp, what and how much you loaded it with.. My rule of thumb for cooling the fridge before a trip is to start with an empty fridge and freezer turning it on at least 24 hrs before loading it with frozen or pre-cooled foods.

Thanks. There was nothing in it. Ambient temp around 70F.

12 hours is not unreasonable at all... like I said, 24hr is my rule of thumb.. remember RV fridges remove the heat, they don't make cold...

Would take 6 to 8 to cool down - about 40 degrees in the fridge on our last RV.
Our last RV had a Dometic too . Left it in AUTO and before we left to hit the road I checked to make user it switched to GAS - no "check" light. Sometimes you can hear the gas flowing.
Would helped with the cool down time when it is 70 degrees or warmer was an additional fan in the back. Our last RV only came with one fan and I don't think it provided adequate air flow for cool down. Our present RV has 3 fans in the rear - 1 small and 2 larger ones.
Pictures show the fan I added (SilenX Effizio Silent 120mm Thermistor Edition Fan controlled by an on-off rocker switch) and the one installed at the factory.
Also is the thermister installed on the correct fin and hight.

SilenX Effizio Silent 120mm Thermistor Edition Fan - Amazon.
Some Doemtic fridges have it for the sensor and you move the plastic piece holding it it up or down to control the temperature. Our Norcold has a sensor but I don't move it to control the temperature. Sensor on 2nd fin in from right.
