What could be the cause?

This morning I went into the FW and notice some marks on the bedroom ceiling, see picture.

What could be the cause, there is no sign of water, and the ceiling is solid. I was thinking that maybe it could be the glue showing thru as the unit is sitting in the sun.
Is there any way to fix that, other than painting the ceiling?

You do not need a leak for minor water damage. Condensation could be the culprit. Sometimes the putty used to hide staples will discolor and look like water stains. Lightly rub these spots with a "Mister Clean Magic eraser" type product to see if they disappear. Good luck and I hope this is all that your problem is. One photo looks like this but the other looks like water stain. ... JM2˘, Hank

DW had a look at it. She succeeded in removing part of it and believes that it is glue going thru the plastic sheet of the ceiling. I tend to agree with her as the ceiling is solid and the stains are mostly located in the middle of the part going down toward the front of the FW and there is no stain at the front.
