Trouble shooting Aftermarket awning lights

We stuck on the supernite color changing LED strip from Amazon that others have used. We hard wired it to the porch light and tucked everything away behind the lense. The light works fine but I can't get the remote to work, it did work when plugged in. I tried new batteries, getting right on top of the sensor to even ordering a new remote. I'm stumped......help
