The aluminium T-handle rods are notorious for breaking but fortunately they are threaded, so repairs can be done on the spot (ask me how I know).
You might be looking for only a hole the size of your finger in the enclosed underbelly, but a pair of pliers can grab the male threaded portion which the handles thread onto to dump if needed.
*Be careful not to damage the threads!!
