On the edge from Virginia

Hello all,

Been stalking these forums for a little while now. I think we are going to settle on a 2022 KEYSTONE COUGAR 29RKS but still not sure.

We are targeting a move to FL in 2024 and looking for something to live in while we find a house down yonder.

We've had travel trailers and popups but are possibly deciding to move up to the majors here soon for our first 5th wheel, if I can just get over the overall size of them.

I have had mine for 2 years now and have enjoyed it. Has plenty of room for the 2 of us and the 2 little schnauzers. Few things I really like and few I don’t. 1. Love the outside kitchen hardly ever cook inside. Did change the grill to a black stone. 2. Shower being handicap and having a nice large shower is nice. 3 plenty of room in living area with 2 slide one on each side. 4. Fireplace puts out enough heat so if cool out don’t need to use furnace. 5. Plenty of storage in cargo area. 6. Bedroom enough room to walk around. 7. Love the outside wet are. Everything for water n swear in one place. Makes for easy winterizing. Now few things that could be a little better. 1. The couch isn’t comfortable at all when using as a bed. 2. Could us a little better organized in bedroom when it comes to making the bed. The theater recliners were okay however we did change them out for some nice powers recliners. Back ac is a little noisy but we got use to it so not a problem. Could use a little more room for the kitchen table n chairs little tight if 4 people are at the table.
If you have any questions just ask. Oh I did have an issues with the passenger slide after only a few months. Water somehow was getting into the floor and it had to be replaced. That was a pain to deal with both from dealer and keystone.

Welcome to the forums. For what it's worth ... Cougar is a very popular trailer model and I haven't heard of folks having too many problems with them. It seems every travel trailer and fifth wheel on the market has customer complaints and forums occupied with problems. But, very little is ever brought up about Cougars. So, I think your choice of a good couples trailer is a good one. I looked up that floor plan, and that floor plan is similar to one of our previous travel trailers we had, and the floor plan worked well for us.

About being timid over the size of the fifth wheel... um ... you'll get over that after you've had it a short while. In fact, the longer you own it, the smaller and smaller it will seem. A year from now, you even wonder why you had any concerns to begin with. It's a learning curve.

But I do understand what you are saying. We started with a pop-up, and we had 3 trailer and now a fifth wheel after that. Each one got bigger and bigger, and longer and longer, and taller and taller. But after a few weeks of ownership, it was no big deal any more.

Occasionally, I'm standing in just the right position in the right frame of mind. The truck and trailer will be hitched and the rig catches my eye. And I look at my behemoth rig, truck and trailer combination, and it still takes may breath awayt at the size. We've had this Montana for over 4 years now.

So, don't let the size intimidate you. You'll be just fine! Give yourself some slack, you are not a stranger to towing, so you'll do just fine!

Enjoy and happy camping!
