We have done 700 mile days, but they are not fun.

I prefer 300 to 400 miles in a day. We start out right after breakfast drive 5 hours stop for lunch, then drive another 3 hours and have the trailer set up by 4:00. According to my GPS stats we average 42 MPH when towing, this includes fuel stops and breaks. So I figure on 8 hours of "travel time" per day. If we find something interesting along the way we stop, some days we travel less than 100 miles.

i used to drive straight thru 18 -24 hours to florida but those days are over…like to keep it to 5-6 hours and plan my trips stopping and exploring small towns where i can and spending the night…although heading home from maine last august i drove for over 12 hours because the halfway point campground resembled a hideout for pirates and shipbreakers

300 miles max in a day to make sure we enjoy the day. Stop every 1 1/2 hours to stretch the legs. Highway speed of 60 mph seems to work well for us and our equipment.

I’ve done 994 miles, 15 hours. Bristol TN to Liberty Texas.
Our daughter was having a “relationship crisis” and I was told to get home ASAP. Now they’re married with 2 kids. All is well.
My normal goal is less than 6 hours, which is about 5 per Goggle maps.

500 miles is usually my goal, but I have stretched it to 750 or more at times. Even if I'm not in a hurry, I want to get where I'm going.

First day is longest.

We live in central Jersey and winter in central Florida, Sebring area. Our first day heading south is the long one, Emporia Va. We go down the Delmarva to Norfolk then west to Emporia. It can be 7+ hours but it sets us up for a a couple of short days to a two day stop at St.Augustine. I'm old, 77, and it suits us fine.
We leave right around Christmas so daylight is in short supply and campgrounds along the way are is short supply.

In the range of 300 miles with reservations, always. Don’t like surprises. So with reservations being the priority, it might be 250-350 miles.

In our travels towing at 1700rpm/65-68mph stopping for fuel (500 miles = 2 fuel stops, 700 = 3) & a stretch, a couple potty stops & a lunch/dinner break we would average about 45-50 miles an hour, 500 miles would be minimum 10 hours of driving, 700 miles, NO WAY!
If we traveled in the car 500-700 miles, 10+ hours & were 30 years younger would be a piece of cake but towing a large rv at our age is a whole different situation, I would do so, if I possibly could, in only an emergency situation.

2-2-2 modified

When we first started RVing full time 8 years ago, we planned our trips based on the 2-2-2 plan. Travel 200 miles, stop be 2pm and stay 2 days. Now, all these years later, we have modified that plan. We are not in such a hurry. We still try to stay around 200 miles a day, maybe up to 300 if the terrain is boring, stop in the early to mid-afternoon (to get familiar with a place during daylight hours), and stay 4-7 days. The more you move, the more expensive it is, so staying put gives us more time to explore a place, builds in down days for laundry, book reading, and relaxation, and is more enjoyable in general. It’s also not as hard on our two dogs. They would much rather be outside than stuck in a truck.

Very similar to our traveling methods except without the dogs. Just a couple with old bones that got very stiff riding any longer.
Someone else posted 500-700 miles a day, that makes my a## sore & knees ache just thinking about traveling that long!

This a question the comes up periodically that IMO the answer I'd "it depends". Several factors come into play like health, weather, traffic, road conditions, screaming kids or barking dogs, etc. I have the luxury of time as I'm retired but when we were "week end warriors" we rarely traveled over 3 hrs as our time was limited and we didn'twant to spend a lot of it in driving..

Average is around 4-5 hours not so much miles. The only long drive is usually when we leave Western North Carolina at the end of October for home in The Free State of Florida. It is about 8 hours and the DW will drive sometimes for a hour or so about halfway just to give me a break.

First-time RV'ers here and first-time snowbirding, wish us luck! We joined Harvest Host and are planning our stops around 350-400 mile days on our way to the Tucson, AZ area.
We only plan on overnighting at each stop but want to arrive while we still have daylight. We also are traveling with 1 dog and a few cats so I'm not sure how often we will have to stop during the day, I'm thinking every 2 hours or so. When I drove a tractor-trailer I used to figure an average speed during the day of 50mph with fuel and food stops...but that was 30 years ago when I was 35...

We had originally planned on leaving around October 1st but some Dental issues have delayed us...now we will bebatttling shorter days and weather.

We just got back home from Cody Wyoming and we live in South Georgia. We traveled about three hundred miles a day. I’m 69 and my wife is 65. We stayed anywhere from one night to two nights each stop. This gave us a chance to rest, fuel up, and get something to eat, and rest.

The one thing I noticed from this post, is that our community understands why we love RVing. It's for the trip, the time and the being together. As I have read through these, it reinforces why I hope to run into and spend a little time with everyone on this board. Good traveling folks!

We were the same, traveling & meeting new folks with the same lifestyle was 1/2 the fun, traveling & seeing this great country was the other 1/2.
I know there's lots of folks out that want a roof full of solar, basement full of batteries & a way to haul water so as to camp off grid in the middle of where for extended periods, but we were the opposite. No we didn't like state/national parks, couldn't fit in most anyway due to size, full of weekend warriors raising hell all weekend.
DW said if we're futiming this will be my home, I need 3 things, water, sewer & 50 amp power so we can live it like our home.
Fortunately we traveled pre-Covid so reservations a week or more in advance weren't necessary, most times we could get in anywhere with a call an hour in advance so the destination wasn't the main objective.
Sorry for the long rant!
Travel how ever long you feel comfortable, but enjoy the trip as well as the destinations.

I will echo what many others have said; our sweet spot is to travel no more than 5 hours / 300 miles per day and aim to arrive by 3:00. By arriving early it gives us a chance to relax and unwind.... isn't that what it is supposed to be about anyway. We typically preplan the route and look for "nice" stoping points that will fit into the 5 hour range.

I can't remember the last time I pulled our rig in the dark. In the off chance that we push our self imposed arrival time we always make sure we arrive well before dark. We used to push it to just arrive before dark but finally realized that we could take our time and just enjoy the experience.
