15000 AC unit

So I have a 2022 318BR with 1 ac unit. Haven’t used yet. I know the heat is killer from having it on a few times. Just wondering if it is a good unit snd keeps it cool? It’s a 15000btu

Depends on where you are and the temps. 15k is good, but that’s a big trailer for one AC. Down here in NM it wouldn’t cut it. Up in north it’d be fine

I spent a late spring vacation at sunny and sandy Ft. Dix many years ago and recall humidity and temps were miserable. My 5th wheel is 7 feet shorter and better insulated (I guess) than your Hideout and I have a 15K BTU A/C as well as a 14K portable and need the 2nd A/C to keep temps tolerable in warm/humid summers here in Texas. I have also made every possible modification to improve the ability to stay cool. You will definitely need a 2nd A/C in the summer sun of NJ. BTW: My Uncle Sam provided me with that paid 8 week vacation at beautiful Ft. Dix.

First, a trailer 36' long is going to have "issues keeping cool" in anything hotter than about 80-85F. Add high humidity and even if you do get the temperature down to a reasonable level, opening the door to go in or out will introduce enough humidity to make it a "warm, muggy trailer" instead of just a "almost cool trailer"...

The Hideout does not come with 50 amp shore power standard. It's an option, so if your trailer has the optional 50 amp shore power, you may also have the second air conditioner wiring already in the ceiling at one of your roof vents. If you do not have the 50 amp shore power option, then you're looking at a significantly more difficult (not impossible but not easy to do) installation of a second air conditioner. Not only will you need to devise a power source (a 30 amp shore power trailer is inadequate to power two rooftop air conditioners) but you'll also need to run the wiring to a roof vent as well....

So, the first question is, do you have the optional 50 amp shore power setup ???

If you have 50 amp and can install the second AC you’ll be much happier. I believe all of them wired with 50 amp are pre wired for the second AC. If not, you will have to practice space management. Install roof ducts that can be closed off and make the space you’re cooling as small as possible. Don’t cool the bathroom. Close off the bedroom during the day when it’s not being used, etc.

I will attempt to confuse this issue by telling the OP that my camper is a 30A electrical service and I run a separate cord to the pedestal for use with my 14K BTU portable and exhaust it out a window. Works pretty well.

My brother in law did the same with a roof mount. It works great as long as the pedestal has an outlet.

There should be a blank outlet cover on the ceiling near one of the roof vents with a yellow sticker that says it’s pre wired

If you plan on living or going anywhere with high humidity you'll want at least two units. I'm in North Florida/Southwest Georgia and I have three units on mine. It's a necessity here.

If you have 30 amp shore power, not much need to check for the air conditioner prep. It's not available on a 30 amp trailer. If you have 50 amp shore power, it may/may not be installed. There are two option packages, one is only the 50 amp shore power and the other is the 50 amp shore power with second air conditioner prewire package...

If you have 50 amp shore power, go to the front bedroom and look at the roof vent. You'll see an outlet about 18" forward of the roof vent with two decals. One on the faceplate and one on the ceiling beside the faceplate.

It will look something like this photo. If that faceplate is there, you've got the optional "front air conditioner prep package.

We must be related, I have the same uncle that sent me on an all paid exotic vacation to the same location. The only thing was, my "vacation" was in November and December. Yea, bivouac in December was probably just as fun as doing it in the Summer heat! After my "vacation" there, I never ever wanted to visit a sandy beach again.

About a year and a half later, I had opportunity to go back there when I was taking a few days off "work". This time I was able to drive my own car over post and I found my quarters, the riffle ranges, and even the obstacle course. I drove the same route we marched after qualifying with our riffles and I found it absolutely amazing how much shorter the distance was between points on post when driving and not marching or riding in the back of a "cattle car."

Oh the good times. Glad I did it once, but I never want to do it again!

We had one AC unit during the high heat last summer. Our rig was factory prepped for a 2nd AC and now has one installed. One AC just isn’t enough and our rig was miserable in 110 deg heat. Even 2 AC’s would struggle in that kind of heat but one is hopeless.

If you’ve got the prep for the 2nd AC then it’s a no-brainer.
