Some more info would be helpful. What year and model is your camper? What do you want the inverter to power? Is your camper prepped for an inverter from the factory?

It is a 2013 cougar 28sgs, I’ve owned it for 2yrs. I would like to use small appliances when not plugged into shore line. I don’t know if an inverter connection was factory installed. All I found in my manual is regarding the converter. I’m not electric literate. Still learning.

Ok, now let's figure out what a "small appliance" is. A small coffee maker or toaster will require far more energy than as a modern 50" LED TV. Will also need to know where you want to use them (I.e. all on the same outlets, various outlets throughout, etc.) and what kind of batteries you have and how you plan to recharge them. A typical rv battery supplied by the rv dealer would power an inverter large enough for say a coffee maker to make 1 pot of coffee before needing to be recharged.

I did not know that about the battery use with inverter. So a generator would be a better idea for off shore use, right?

Again, it depends on what you want to power, what time of day since there may be “quiet hours” where you can’t operate the Gen and you want to watch a movie.

You would be much better off using a generator for coffee and toast in the morning and recharge the batteries. I would recommend two 6v golf cart batteries to start with. Most modern LED TVs can be operated with a simple 300-500 watt inverter that can plug into a "cigarette lighter" style receptacle.

Ok. So now, add up the watts needed for the coffee pot and toaster, and that will give you an idea how big of an inverter.

I wouldn’t even think about an inverter without at least 2 batteries. A pair of 6V golf cart batteries are probably the best based on cost. The inverter will need to be as close to the batteries as possible, and if the appliances are all on one or two circuits, wiring will be fairly simple and straight forward.

Makes sense. I’ll check into that. I do have an inverter on my F250 super duty that has cig style ports but I understand I could use it while the truck was running.
Costco has a “Duracell powersource 660” for around $500 I was told about. Do you know if this would be useful? It’s rechargeable and for 6 hrs use.

Both of those will have the number of watts available listed, and I bet it’s not enough for the coffee pot or toaster.
