After a five hour drive the new Cougar 24RDS is safely parked in the drive. (A lot of that 5 hours was because of Seattle rush hour traffic - lordy, lordy, Seattle traffic is awful) The fun starts now, even before we take it out for it's first camping trip - - outfitting it and making it ours. I already have a few mods in mind.
It pulled great with the Pullrite 2600 and I even got better mpg than when pulling the bumper pull. There is a tiny bit of sag that I will address before any serious travel.

Congrats on getting the new trailer home. Getting it ready and "making it yours" is work but fun at the same time. Have a good time.

Congrats. Not surprised about the fuel mileage, I saw that many times when I was transporting. Easiest/cheapest way to address the sag is to add a super spring. Cost is around $500 and install is about 30 mins.

Congrats on the new Cougar. Enjoy making those modifications and outfitting it. And just an FYI ... the modification will never stop. Way too often you'll dream up another modification you'll need or want. It never ends. But, that makes the camper uniquely your own. Again, Congrats!

"making it ours". First thing I would do is look at the tires. If Trailer Kings, I would make them a craigslist sale and go for some reputable brand as often discussed. Good luck!

Totally agree. They are Trailer Kings. Since it will most likely be sitting until next year, I'm penciling in Feb/Mar to take it in and have a set of GY Endurance put on it. Then I can install my TireTraker tpms.

Thanks. A sound suggestion.

I went to the SuperSprings website and watched their video on super springs vs sumo springs. They make both. It says that super springs are good if your truck is loaded most of the time but sumo springs are better if it is only occasionally loaded. The company guy doing the video said that he pulls an RV with his F250 and he has sumo springs on it.

Googling sumo's brought me to timbren's. So now I am (trying) to weigh the pro's and con's of each. Seems like either, for me, would be better than air bags or a heavier leaf spring set - - and cheaper, too.

We've had the Timbrens forever and they don't affect the ride when not towing but work great when connected.

That doesn't even look like enough sag to worry about, to me.
I'm currently pondering on a way to secure the refrigerator door for travel. Roads are getting so bad, I've had escapees from the fridge twice now...

Looks nice ! A 5th is soooo much better than a bumper pull. They pull so nice.

I installed the Sumo’s on mine. Very simple to install probably in under 30 minutes. They do not affect the ride what so ever when unloaded. I had them on my 2019 3500HD and now on my 2022 2500HD pickup.

i put airbags on my 2012 ram 2500 with the onboard compressor…it worked really nice and was an easy install…i was still very much overweight though so i bought my new truck…i’d do something or else everyone will think your high beams are on traveling at night

I went to a spring shop to ask about a spring pack upgrade on our Ram. He sold me on Timberen. I installed those about 6 years ago and with our set up we don't quite touch them when the Cougar is initially hooked up. Timberens are not engaged when unloaded so no issue with the Ram's ride. With 80# tire pressure it always just rides like a "truck"

I too like the Cougar Half Ton 24RDS. Not seeing the insides with the slide in, I worry if I will be able to easily get past the slide to go up and down the steps. I have a 38-inch waist.

No worry. With the living room slide in, the steps to the upper deck are completely blocked. You will not be able to get to the bathroom or the bedroom - period. Not a problem for us - - a deal breaker for others.

Congratulations on your 24RDS. We have a 2021 24RDS. While we like the layout, the quality (as with other manufacturers) leaves a lot to be desired.

As for the Trailer King tires, mine are still on the trailer. I’d say I have approximately 10K miles on them. They are getting worn. So after our last trip for the season this week, I’ll replace them in the Spring.
