They come installed in Texas, and the ones on my dually are 6" off the ground when static. Generally they have the dealer's name on them..

They aren't required by any entity but are a good idea anywhere. You live fairly close to me and you know how bad the "road shrapnel" is in this state. Anyone with a low profile car will typically need a windshield replaced if they drive much around here,

I used Rock Tamers for years. Some @&8$!? stole the whole set up from the storage yard so jist went with the “bolt on in the fenderwell” that have the steel support built in. But we prefer Rock Tamers.

I have a big chip in my work van windshield...if I leave it unfixed then no further damage will occur,as soon as I get it replaced it will happen again.

My brothers old 2006 F150 needed a new windshield many years ago. He had the local auto glass shop put on what the insurance would pay for. After some 2 or 3 of those aftermarket windshields replaced in a couple of years time,, he had them put an OEM windshield on. Problem of cheap glass solved. Go OEM was his lesson. The Ford windshield took the hits much better.

Those look like "Spats" they are not mud flaps, those just protect the paint from direct rocks.
I just checked and the Mudflaps on our Ram are 7.5" off the ground unloaded.

These are the ones on our 2016.



We also have fronts that keep the running boards clean.

Looks good! I had one rock fly off when I was driving and hit somewhere under the truck..sounded like a hammer hitting

Don't have a dually, but do have the WeatherTech flaps front and rear. I remember reading some time back that the only problem with the flaps attached to the receiver hitch with some trucks is the exhaust. I think with Ford diesel exhaust that aim out the side, there isn't a problem. With GM and I'm not sure about Rams, but the exhaust aims more out the rear and will melt or burn the flap that is in line with the exhaust pipe. Just something to think about.

I thought about that .. probably? Not needed for ram but will order the heat shield as well

I do know, they don't hurt anything having them added to your vehicle. I really don't know if they actually help, but definitely, they don't hurt anything. My 2014 Chevy (in my signature below) came from the factory with no flaps. I had them added on after market. My previous dualy had them also, and also had the shaggy long brush type flap that hangs across the entire back end of the truck. Even with mud flaps and that shaggy long thing hanging from the back, my travel trailer was always covered with specks of tar, but no chips.

My Montana High Country Fifth wheel, for some reason, stays clean. Oh, there is an occasional spot of tar or road grease, but nothing like the previous trailer. So, i think part of it has to do with the actual trailer and how high it sits too.

So, do they help? I don't know. But, they do not hurt anything.

Absolutely correct there. I used mine on my 2014 Chevy (in my signature) only once and the exhaust melted half of it. I tossed it in the campground dumpster and that was the end of that!

Jasin although mine is gas I believe our exhausts exit almost identically. I've been running my receiver mounted flaps for 5 years and the exhaust on any Ram I've owned has never been a problem (they exit to the side).

They do help IMO. Our first long trip I arrived at the destination (1500 miles) and had NO chips on the front of the trailer - I thought I had it made. Drove the next 1500 and had about 7 across the front to my dismay. Put the Husky's on and those 7 were the only dings when I traded it in 5 years and many thousands of miles later.

Is there a sticky or post about suggested accessories for different rigs? Travel trailer, fifth wheel etc? Each day I find something on the “oh sh$@ I probably need that too “ list lol

Years ago our tax accountant got into camping. He and his wife and DW and I would camp together several times a year. The running joke got be when we would meet at the cg his DW would ask "How much is it going to cost this time?", or she would say "what new gadget does he have that you need this trip?".

It can be amazing how many "gotta have that" items you'll find and accumulate over the years. You've probably experienced the same with boating.

Yes lol they have boating flea markets wouldn’t be a bad idea to have one for rv’s as well.

So I'm gathering the consensus here is that the solid rubber flaps are preferable over the long brush type. My thought is the brush doesn't protect as well?

I use semi truck "no sail" mud flaps. I made a bracket for them that bolts onto the truck using bolts already there. I didn't want to bolt/screw them to the fiberglass bedside

It’s my opinion that mud flaps look better on a dually anyway. To me, it’s all in the proportions that make them fit the vehicle visually. SRW flaps are too skinny for the their length (needed to do the job). They just don’t seem to belong, but the dually flap is about as long as it is wide and it visually fits the vehicle.
