Some have a locking ring and some are twist the plug once installed on the trailer. After years of using an extension cord to connect my 5er I put in a 50 amp connection both where I park to store it and up by the house for when either emptying or loading it.

If you are going to change your 30 amp over to a 50 amp the plug that comes with the camper will work. If it not long enough you can buy an extension 50 amp they come in different length. It’s good to have one anyway just in case you camp someplace where the electric box is further then your power cord that came with the camper. They run about 130.00

no, you can not! 50 amp is 240 volts 4 wire. 30 amps is 120 volts 3 wire. 50 amps is #6 ga wire. 30 amps is #10 ga wire.

all are twist look plugs. 1/4 turn to the right and a locking ring. Some rigs have the cord perminatly attached to the RV.

It's very easy to wind up applying 240 volts to your trailer, destroying much of the electronics in it within seconds.

ADDED: You can buy a 50 amp extension cord almost anywhere RV supplies are sold or on Amazon. You can also use an 1' "dog bone" adapter at the trailer outlet and then use a 12 gauge house extension cord to run the 50' to your outlet.
240 volts is in fact delivered to your 50 am RV main panel breaker box.

My question is this: does the end that plugs into the camper have a locking ring (marine type) or does it just plug in without the locking ring?

Thanks in advance and afterwards also.

Mark
If it has a plug on the RV end it is a twist look plug with a locking ring.

It is a twist-lock with a locking ring. The shore power end just plugs in.

As a "retired master electrician" you should realize that a miswired 30 amp adapter can "easily apply 240 volts to a 30 amp trailer".... you can "just as easily apply 240 volts to the neutral/ground pins in a 50 amp plug. My "point" was that if he's not familiar with "converting my 30 amp plug to a 50 amp plug by changing the plug" he really ought not try to do it, something very dramatic could well happen as his "house wiring or his trailer wiring starts to smoke"....

If there is already a 30A outlet, I would buy the 50-30 adapter/dogbone and use it. For $25 or so you can use most everything you would need at the house. We did this at the old house and worked well for a year or so until we moved last October. If you really want/need the full capacity then it will be a lot more expensive.

Just spent around $500 for 125 feet 6/3 UF and all the goodies to go with it and that was just material.
