5th Wheel Length
This may be a silly question but I will ask anyway.
I have a Cougar Half Ton 27SGS which I assume is a 27 foot 5er but the actual length is 30 feet. I made a reservation at an RV Park for this summer and they asked what length the TT is. I said 27 feet but now wondering if I should have said 30 feet.
Which is it?

Usually a "mis-reporting" of 3' won't be a problem. If you're concerned, you might give the campground a call and tell the the actual length. They'll know "for sure" how long their site is.
I've found that most sites that are long enough for a 25' trailer will also be OK for a 30' trailer. My experience has been more with site width issues. A trailer with no slides, or one with slides on one side vs a trailer with slides on both sides. It gets "tight" when the sites are 20' wide. A 8' wide trailer fits well, a 12' wide trailer fits OK but a 16' wide trailer, well, good luck walking between your trailer and the one parked next door....
But, as for length, most campgrounds include parking space for the tow vehicle in the campsite length. So you'll probably be OK.

FWIW, the RV industry quit using model numbers for length. Mine for example is a 273FWRET. Was told 27 1/2 feet long, when it’s actually 30’ 11”.
I always use 30 ft when reserving spaces, and you’ll probably be ok b

Thanks for the replies. I will now refer to it as a 30 foot. 😊

Now it’s got me wondering...so a actual 36’ fifth wheel is 36’ from front cap to rear bumper. ....so a 30’ travel trailer is 30’ from front cap to rear bumper PLUS the length of the hitch/frame on the front? Or do they include that in the length.
With boats at marinas ,they make you measure from swim platform to bow pulpit because that adds footage to either end and they charge by the foot.
I wanted to go out to national parks and I’ve heard of 35’ max for rv’s so I also wondered about rounding up or down with actual measurements

Your camper spec is 35.67' so if I was the park ranger I would boot you! bwhahahaha Seriously, my old Cougar is a 287EFS model; Never was quite sure what Keystone intended with the EFS thing (we have a rear kitchen model) but the trailer is EXACTLY 28.7'. Of course, it is a 2002 so things made more sense when George W. was keeping the world sane!

Lol many things made more sense years ago! I’m gonna say 35’ and then immediately cough when I make the reservations.

Our 303 TG is listed as 35.67' long. Not sure, nut I think the 303 is the square footage with the slides out. The TG I think is for "tail gating" because it was one of the early models with the full outdoor kitchen. I think you would need a code breaker from NSA down at Fort Mead to decipher the code.
My measurements are just a shade over 36' from bumper to hitch. When we book we always say 36' travel trailer with two slides on the drivers side. Haven't had an issue yet.

My previous trailer was a Jayco Eagle 323RKS. I was told when I bought that it was 32 1/2 feet....NOT, when I finally measured it years later it was 36’ 11”. RKS was rear kitchen and slides.

I can't speak for other manufacturers, but the way Grand Design designates the length of their 5th Wheel trailers is the measurement from the center of the king pin to the rear of the trailer...and as far as I know, there is no relationship to the model number of said trailer. Mine for example is 42' 4"...kingpin to the back. The model is a Momentum 394M

I measured mine too, just out of curiosity and it was right at 44'...give or take an inch.

RVIA recently changed (or finally established) an industry standard length measurement criteria that standardizes the definition of where to measure an RV and how to post that information on the payload sticker on the front roadside corner of the RV.
It's located here: https://www.rvia.org/news-insights/r...factured-units
Travel Trailers: Length is measured from the leading front edge of the hitch coupler to the rear most extremity of the trailer, bumper or rear wall/rear cap if not equipped or installed with a bumper
Fifth Wheel Trailers: Length is measured from the leading front edge of the pin box or extreme front of the front profile, whichever is further forward, to the rear most extremity of the trailer, bumper or rear wall/rear cap if not equipped or installed with a bumper
There are some exclusions, which are listed at the link.
The new standard is supposed to take affect with model year 2021 trailers and any manufacturer failure to adhere is considered a "TYPE B" deviation, whatever the hell that means.....

I'm wondering it the RVIA standards somehow make it into the manufacturers designations. I have a 331RL. Published length is something like 37' - I've not put a tape to it overall. It does however measure approx. a bit over 33' for the main box size - not measuring the overhang for the bedroom. Last trailer was a bumper pull 319RLS. Measured about 38' overall (ball to back) and box was right at 32' (31.9 = 319RLS). Just my thinking. Tape measure is your friend and "over" estimating your length at a park is too.

Inside measurement
If you have a 3610 Rl, you will have about 36 feet 10 inches of inside living space. To get the over all measurements one would have to add 3 to 4 feet for the outside measurement.
Hope that helps

Here's what the "official" specs say...
Dimensions
Length31.33 ft. (376 in.)
Width8 ft. (96 in.)
Height12 ft. (144 in.)
Interior Height7 ft. (84 in.)
I read somewhere that the number in the model number is the inside length, and doesn't account for the length of the hitch.

I owned a Cougar 30RLI. It was 36 feet end to end. That “30” was meaningless.

Visited Yellowstone back in 2015, 23 foot TT pulled by overloaded xTerra. Attendant (seasonal hired by contractor) taped the rig from bikes on TV front to box on back of TT. Said we could not stay as we were 45 feet overall and campground limit was 25 feet. Had to go through campground as no turnaround. One open pull through site was big enough to fit two rigs our size end to end. Attendent would not budge, rule was rule. I guess the small class A with a toad was smaller than it looked.
Previous time there was 1975, bigger rig, Rangers ran campgrounds, had no problem camping then.
We need our parks to employ public employees again.
