I have to say that one thing I enjoy about this site is the variety and number of opinions, experiences and advice.
I've read all of your input and that along with our own thoughts, and those voices in my head, have decided to "wing it" on our shorter closer to home adventures. We will test drive the concept of no reservations and a just do it, kind of trip to see how it works for us. Sorta' like traveling training wheels.
For our longer more involved trips we will still make reservations. Also, we would have travel partners, and I can see where the winging it method may be a bit problematic. One party may want to do one thing and the other another.
However, we may end up with a hybrid style trip and wing it on the way home. Who knows maybe one party will get sick of the other party and go another way home.
The destinations and lengths of our longer trips are still TBD. But I think we are jelling on Oregon - ID - UT -Western Colorado - UT - Nevada - Home. Maybe a BLM night or two in NV.
