Post tripod question

We noticed that if we’re parked with out the truck attached, just on the hydraulic system that after time the front ones tend to drop some. If I buy one of those post tripods, that should help right? At least I thought that’s what their for.

IMHO don't waste your $$$.
They're heavy. A PITA to haul/store. Not made to support the rv only to stabilize.
If your jacks are drifting enough that you can notice you have other issues.

I purchased one when we got our 1st 5er, the dealer said we needed it! I have not used it in years, it stays in the garage. they are a PITA.

You have some type of hydraulic leak. Not exactly sure what the valves ae like, but it could be an o-ring or something letting the fluid pass.

You don't state how old or what condition your fifth wheel is in, so it's hard to determine if it's an 7 or 8 year old hydraulic system that has worn parts or if it's a relatively new system with a malfunction. Either way, if your trailer "droops after sitting on the hydraulics for a time" then you have a hydraulic issue.

Rather than spend $100 on a band aid, spend the $100 on finding the problem and fixing it. You'll be "miles ahead once you resolve the reason the hydraulics are losing pressure...

I’ll second the useless tripod claims. The last two fifth wheels I purchased the previous owner left it in a bay. After years of living underneath a shed it migrated to a dumpster. It was a very old style, BAL part bumper jack with an extra leg. The new one is aluminum and has three legs. It’s living in one of the garages until I pass it on to a friend once he finds a fifth wheel he likes.

You seem to have been on this forum for awhile Michael... if you wish to receive answers with context to your questions, go to the UserCP and make a signature with year, make and model of camper and same for tow vehicle. I am not really sure what a "hydraulic stand" is... the tripod gizmo is used on a fifth wheel and I know of no fifth wheels with a hydraulic stand.

I also have 1 of those tripods, and I use mine only for long term storage of the 5th wheel. Because I have to park mine in gravel / rock I've cut 2x8's to fit underneath the pads on the legs to help minimize sinking in the winter & find this works well for me. That being said that's all I use it for. I felt it was to heavy / bulky to hall with during my summer trips. Just my 2cents .

I have one..I have a four point auto leveling system and I don’t know it may just be in my head but it seems to keep the bedroom from unwanted rocking at times

You sir, are obviously younger than 60. Or is it 70? Or maybe 80 ?? Or can we hope to hang in there till 90 or longer ???

?????? And here we go again! I suppose you got a sign "if it's rockin don't come knockin" or something like that? Well, it's Saturday I guess (I suppose it is I don't track days much).

As far as the tripod (in a roundabout way) I use mine when we camp for longer periods because we have a washer and dryer up front. I don't like the extra weight nor the gyrations when they are running. With the documented failures of the frames/walls of the noses on 5th wheels figured it couldn't hurt. Guess that washer/dryer would really throw a twist on that "don't come knockin if it's rockin" thing.....

I’m “older” and I do have a kingpin stabilizer. Properly used it does work, and no I don’t have any signs or stickers. Bought mine in 2007 before autolevel and it really helped on my long Jayco. It works on my current shorter trailer, but then again it seems like I’m the only one here that has working tank sensors too.

Chuck are ALL your "tank" sensors fully functional?? If so, I wish all mine were...at least I "think" so. DW keeps telling me I lost many of them by the time we had made it 50 years; now she tells me I've lost something else every day.....dang! I had NO idea I had that many things to lose 50 years ago.....and now their gone......and I had no idea!

No signs lol …I’m on the fence about getting a splendide just to have it …guess it could help with private sale ..not so much with trade I suppose..probably wait for one year warranty to expire

Any extra support is better than none. How much "extra" the tripods provide provide is purely subjective. What is work for one person, is enjoyment for another! I don't have one, I've got enough junk to carry in my fifth wheel.

Just bought little aluminum jack stands and put under the frame near the hydrol… front posts, so now if then leak through a little the weight is on the little jack stands, problem solved. Thanks to everyone for your input

If your hydraulic jacks “pop” and drop there is “anti stiction” fluid you can add. If they are simply retracting, I would fix it because it will only get worse.

Yes I figured it might be a valve leaking. Just don’t have time to tear into it now. The jack stands are a quick fix

They were creeping down and I did add the “anti-creep” additive. They don’t pop and creep they just very slowly leak through the solenoids I’m thinking, so I’m just using the jack stands till I have time to tear into. The system
