Ghost Fan?

Hello,
I keep my camper plugged in between trips to avoid emptying the fridge. Last week we had a power outage and when it came back on I heard a fan running under the camper. Checked all known fans, fridge etc. and nothing was running but the sound continued. Took the basement panel down as sound was coming from there but couldn't pinpoint the source. It quit when I unplugged the camper but started when plugged back in. It finally quit at some point. Is there some automatic venting or something? It wasn't coming from the battery compartment.

I’m willing to bet it’s the cooling fan on your converter. Power outage caused all the 12V stuff to draw on the battery. Power was restored and the converter had to charge the battery back up. The fan coils the heat sink in the converter.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did check that when I opened the panel in the basement, but it wasn't coming from there. Should have mentioned that...

^^^ What Chuck said.....

Also, since it was a "out of the ordinary situation" I'd urge you to take a quick look at your batteries. If it was the converter and it was "operating normally" then probably no issues, but if it was the converter and it was "overcharging the batteries for some unknown reason" you might have batteries that evaporated some/most/all of the electrolyte. Check the fluid level in your batteries and make sure all the electrical connections on them are clean, corrosion free and tight.....

While there may not be any issues, it's always best to be "safe and sure" that the batteries are being charged properly and not being "damaged by the charging system in the trailer.

Agree with all the above. Will only add this, if the battery electrolyte level is low use only distilled water to replenish. The use of tap water or bottled water will damage the battery due to the mineral content.

Out of curiosity, what type of fridge do you have... Residential 120 volt or RV 120 volt / propane...
