Truck Advice
Hi Folks,
The wife and I are officially out of the equestrian business. We have sold two of three ranches and all but one F450 we used to tow horse trailers over the Western US for shows and competitions. We have not owned a smaller truck since the 1970's. Would like to sell the last F450 as it is over kill to pull our 248RKS and has recently become a parking issue at one of our homes.
Long story short, I need to find a tow vehicle that is not much longer (especially length) than 20' overall, bumper to bumper. Researching 3/4 ton, four wheel drive, extended cab with a short box bed from the big three. Have been a Ford owner since the '60s, but open to change.
Not a fan of the 1/2 ton, or the four banger engines. Would like a V-8, but probably will step down to a gas as the trips are getting fewer as we get grayer. I know I will miss the turning diameter of the F450 and the torque of the diesel, but hoping the shorter length truck will help with turning radius and a V-8 would still give me some torque.
Yes, I am familiar with payload and towing capacities, and never will tow at "The Ragged Edge". Sorry, not at the RV at the moment, so don't have the weights.
Anyone have some thoughts? Sure appreciate any input.
Eric
