My 2018 Keystone Springdale is a “WE” and it doesn’t show it at the end of the numbers.

I looked and it does have “we”.

As others have said, Grand Design is a different manufacturer and “WE” stands for Western Edition. Generally the WE models have a higher roof rating and overall insulation value.

A Polar Package has more insulation, and heating pads under the tanks.

As a standard feature, mine is labeled “Extended Season Camping” which is simply the space between the frame rails is enclosed and a 2” furnace duct hose terminates in that void space so that when the furnace is running it keeps the pipes and tanks slightly warm. As the name implies, it extends the camping season (maybe by a couple of weeks), but that’s it.

My listed trailer is a WE and it has WE on the model number and on the sticker next to the door.
There is a way to find out where that or any vehicle was made that has the current VIN system. VIN has a letter or number in it for their for the plant location. Forget the country, that is a different number or letter.
I am not going through Keystone to learn their plant codes, if its that important to you. I would think any Keystone service manager would know the code for which plant a trailer came from besides the model number. Another way to find it, go into VIN assist or call your insurance agent and have them look it up. Your agent has a NICB book of vehicles and VIN's. On each manufacture's face page they print what that manufacture uses for their plant locations code. Example could be X is plant code for Pendelton Oregon. Y is for plant code for Goshen Indiana. Each company inputs their own plant codes. What means Goshen for Keystone is or could be different than Airstream as further examples.
I said all that since my WE does not have WE in the VIN. But somewhere in that VIN is the plant location. But I could care less which plant it was built.

Yes, it does.

I admit I haven't read through this entire thread yet, but I would like to add... When we were shopping in 2017 (for 2018s) and in 2019 for 2020s, the WE Cougar half ton were 50 amp and pre wired for 2nd AC, tended to have slightly larger fresh, gray, and black tanks, and greater CCC. The eastern had 30 amp service, smaller tanks, lesser CCC, etc. Now this may have been influenced by what the Dealers ordered. But that's what we found.

We had a 31 foot Crossroads Zinger toyhauler (good camper), but we wanted one with more interior space. So we "upgraded" to this one.



Keystone utilizes space really well and we like this camper alot. One thing that is majorly annoying is the 30amp service, it is not sufficient. The previous owner melted the power cord head by drawing too much amps. You can't run everything in the camper without blowing the main.....electric fridge, hot water, AC, microwave......little annoying. The RV should be a 50amp.


Rule of thumb, only operate 3 major things at once.

I agree with you completely.
It's surprising (until you do the math) how much more power 50amp service provides compared to 30amp service.

30amp x 120vac = 3600 watts.
(50amp service x 2 legs) x 120vac = 12,000 watts.

I know it costs more to produce a 50amp wired vehicle, but just pass the cost on to the buyer. It's not that much more money.

We have a 2012 Cougar 21RBSWE and the sticker next to the door does include the "WE" in the Model number.

Keystone has two designations for the local they are built. I believe the "we" means the western local. The western versions are built a little different for the climate.

We own a Crossroads Sunset Trail 291RK (Keystone owns Crossroads so there are similarities). A sticker by the door "claims" Extreme Weather Package- wadda buncha BS!
It has enclosed belly with a 2" furnace duct hanging into the belly. The real problem is it is BEHIND a 30 gallon grey water tank for kitchen. I cut the Coroplast into 6 sections and took it all down. I had some extra close cell roll insulation rated at R-17 from some shop insulating. I lined the inside of the I-beam frame and ran a sheet across between the I-beams. I fastened with silver 3M HVAC tape. While the floor was open, used foam isulation on all the pipes with tie wraps to hold but just snugged not cranked down tight. Then I used foam-in-a-can to seal the holes in the floor and any other egress point that 4 legged vermin might find interesting (the 2 legged vermin I meet at the door with appropriate security measures). I extended the 2" duct using PVC pipe that fit the duct and ran it forward (did a 90 degree around the tank) and drilled 1/2" holes at an angle to direct air forward. NOW I can claim a more extreme weather package- but with single pane windows it has limits. I need to open the floor again and add a circuit and some outlets in better places- mostly to handle space heaters when we do go out when it might be cold. We went to Cattaloochee to watch the elk in rut and temps overnight were just below 32 F and we burned 1/2 of a 20# tank of propane! This was before modifications/improvements but space heaters will help cut propane usage. I added some pictures to show some of what was done. I replaced the metal shot-in fasteners with self tapping metal screws with washer heads. So a little off topic but relevant to the weather package and honest comments/thoughts mentioned.
