Dometic toilet seal replace

Thought someone may be interested. Seems some Dometic toilets are leaking water from the bowl into the holding tank. The culprit is the "Ball Seal". Replacement is easy.
Happy trails,
------------

Dometic® 300/310/320 Flush Ball Seal Installation

NO TOOLS REQUIRED.
1. Turn off water supply.
2. Hold flush pedal down to keep flush ball open.
3. Grasp inside edge of seal and pull upward to remove from toilet.
4. Thoroughly clean lower bowl rim area where seal was located.
5. Release flush pedal to close flush ball. Thoroughly clean surface of
flush ball.
6. Insert new seal in base, making sure seal is firmly pressed outward
against lower bowl rim.
7. Press flush pedal to open flush ball, and spread thin layer of silicone
grease or petroleum jelly under the seal where it will contact flush
ball. Release flush pedal.
8. Lightly press down around circumference of seal to insure seal is in proper position.
9. Turn on water supply.
10. Add water to bowl and check for leaks.

I'm dealing with this now on my 2008 Fuzion. In 20+ years and many different campers I have never run into this before. This is poor quality in my opinion.

Jager,

Replacing the ball seal every 4 or 5 years sure beats the old Thetford 1/2" Flush valve that used to freeze and need to be replaced every spring. Even with proper winterization, it seemed that valve body would freeze and crack spraying water all over the floor and wall behind the toilet.

I'll take the once in a while quick replacement of the ball valve seal over removing the toilet every spring !!!

After reading some of the other forums it seems there are those who put "olive oil" in the toilet bowl when the RV is not in use. Helps with keeping the seal soft & pliable.

I have no experience with this technique but who knows- it may help.
Happy trails,

I may date myself but going back and starting with a small Shasta TT in the late 70's all the way through 3 more TT and 3 more 5th wheels . . . . I have NEVER had a single toilet problem until now. I live in the far north east where it gets plenty cold and have never had a single problem with anything freezing. When I did a search on this problem and spoke to my local dealer I was completely shocked to hear how common this problem is.

My only point is something changed. I personally don't think it was an accident either. Dometic sells tens of thousands of toilets ever year. Wouldn't it be a nice kicker to their profits if they could come up with a part that would have a wear out life of a few years? The part is highly unique to their product and it is unlikely you'd get someone else's to replace it.

Just saying . . .

Happy trails,
This topic comes up several times a year and some of our members have had some fun with it. So, be prepared. Before they start I will say .... Yes, some folks do use this method and it seems to work. Travel safely, Hank

Talking Not the ball but slide in toilet.

Ok, were down in Phoenix for NASCAR race. Our toilets not holding water, so I read several tips to fix the problem. New ring, WD40, Vaseline, hot water in bowl, take ring out, clean it, put back in. Well, water is still leaking out. I think I know what the prob is but not sure how to fix it. The slide won't close all the way. Is there a spring maybe that slides that closed is broke? It's well oiled up so not sure what else to do. Any ideas besides the jokes on, not holding water, Vaseline or such? Lol
Thanks for any help!
