Do the butyl tape around the windows needs to be replaced at some point, even if there is no leak.

As long as there isn't a leak you can leave the Windows alone.

If there are no leaks, leave it alone. There is always the possibility that you could unintentionally cause a leak where there was none before.

I'm chasing a leak at the front of our large slide, and both window shops I spoke with strongly suggested leaving the windows alone unless we KNEW they were the culprits as we were likely to cause a new problem, as fix any existing ones.

If you don't like the appearance of the dried, cracked butyl tape around windows. Rub them with WD-40 and it will soften the tape and smooth it out as good as new. (fingers work the best) Doing this also gives you a close inspection of any possible trouble spots. This also works on putty used to seal sink and shower drains. JM2¢, Hank
