AC DIY Install ?

Rig is braced and wired for second AC, there is a manual vent there now so the opening is there, too. I'm fairly handy and understand electric. Is this a job I should do myself to save a few hundred $$$ ? I think my biggest concern out of the project, aside from getting the AC onto the roof, is sealing it all up. I can do lots of things but I can't caulk well to save my life. I mean I can caulk, but it ain't pretty. I'm picky about things and like them done right so if I did it it would be done right. What do you think?

Your A/C unit should have a thick foam seal that will seal the unit to the roof once you tighten the 4 corner bolts. If your using a non ducted, plenum control unit the only issue is matching the 3 wire colors from the AC in and the control box. If it's a ducted remote (thermostat) controlled, then the control wires can be a bit tricky. Normally the wiring diagram will be on the inside cover of the control box.

Getting the vent out without tearing the roof membrane is important, but you don't have to get every bit of sealant and butyl tape off. Would I consider this a DIY job? Yes with help getting the unit onto the roof and positioned correctly.

Thanks. It would be ductless without a remote thermostat so that makes it easier. And thanks for the heads up on getting the vent out. Sounds doable. My dealer had told me around $1000 (rough estimate) installed. Now to look for AC units.
