Pipe noise coming from hot water tank

A few weeks ago a noise started when I turned on the hot water tap. It sounds like pipe noise or like a small pump running. It is pretty loud. I went outside and looked but couldn't figure it out. Does anyone know what this is?

Are you sure the water pump is turned off?

Yes. The pump is turned off. It makes a different noise when I turn it on.

It maybe noise from the pressure regulator transmitting down the fresh water hose mine did that until I changed the regulator to a high volume

Noise

I pulled the panel off and it seems to coming from the pump. Also, I found leaks in several places. I will have to figure this out.

Weird water system noise

Last summer, my water system had the oddest noise, and of course in the middle of the night.

I used the toilet in the middle of the night(yeah, I'm an old guy too), and flushed it and my water system pump would run, and then you would hear a whining noise lasting for about 3 minutes, silence for about 2 minutes, then that cycle would restart, pump-whine-silence. Shut the pump off for the night, planning on looking at it in the morning.

Figured the pump was bad, so I took it apart. Found a small piece of silicon rubber stuck in the check valve. Removed that piece of junk, put it back together and the problem went away. I didn't really want to take apart the pump, as sometimes the gaskets and o-rings don't reseal very well, causing leaks, but in my case, figured the pump was bad anyway, so little risk for avoiding buying a new pump, but I didn't have to, as it sealed and worked fine afterwards.

Not saying this is the noise you have?
