Onan 5500 generator

When I purchased my Fuzion 301 toy hauler. I ask them to make sure the generator runs ok. When I picked up the RV I ask them again if they ran the generator they Said yes. The Rv has a 30 gallon on board gas station. I ask them if they put gas in the onboard gas tank they said no they can run the generator without putting gas in the tank. I have yet to run the generator because I always had full hooks sites. But would like to run the gennie now and then just to keep it in tune but I don't want to put gas in my on board tank to do this. I'm thinking they ran a line off the gennnie into a can of gas to run it would I be correct in my thinking. Has anyone else done this.

If the fuel supply line is held on by a hose clamp, then yes you can use a length of fuel line to draw from a gas can.

The biggest danger I see is the gas vapors that will develop with the gas can open. Gasoline as a LIQUID doesn't burn but the vapors are extremely flammable. I would use the trailers fuel tank and add fuel stabilizer.
