Brake controller knowledge please
My tow vehicle is a 2000, my trailer is a 2018. With this trailer I notice when braking the controller ( a Journey HD) continues to increase rear braking when I am just gently braking the whole unit slowly and it wants to stop me much faster than I choose.
Have tried the adjuster on the controller all the way to either extreme and it does not change things. I don't know if it is controller, incompability, or? I do not remember this when towing other 5th wheel, bumper pull, or gooseneck.
My only solution has been to start the braking with the slider on the controller and maintain that amount and then the use of the truck brakes doesn't cause this to happen.
RV only has about 10000 miles on it and the brake shoes are worn out.

I found this:
https://www.etrailer.com/question-243769.html
I don’t have any first hand experience with that controller.

Might be time to upgrade. I have had my prodigy since early 2000’s and it still works flawlessly.

I would agree with the upgrade recommendation. Technology specifically in electronics has improved so much. I suspect not only will your towing experience improve, but your brake life may improve as well. The upgrade process should be relatively painless since you have an existing unit and the wiring should be able to be used with a new unit.

Ya, that is what prompted this, I am probably going to buy another unit today due to upgraded tech.

My experience with Tekonsha products has been very good. I had the Prodigy and Primus units and both worked flawlessly. I had 2 because I traded trucks and the Prodigy went with it.

Some food for thought then I will mind my own business..... not
Based on the info you mention and not having the same problem with other units you have towed.
Might the problem be with the trailer brakes and not your controller. Just one wheel having a brake 'hangup' or even adjusted too tightly will cause your problem. Then you say the brakes shoes are worn out? It is highly likely, the trailer you mention has auto adjusters.
Just thinking out loud mind you so I will now go about my business.
Good luck, be well and safe travels.
John
