power jack and battery question

The 12VDC battery on the tongue was dead and I needed to jack up the trailer to get onto the tow hitch so I plugged the camper into shore power. This did not supply power to the jack. Does anyone know if the jack is wired strictly to the battery?

Tongue jack is normally wired to the battery, there may be an inline fuse. Plugging into shore power should enable the converter to charge the battery assuming the battery cut off switch is in the correct position.

You could have plugged the umbilical cord with the tow vehicle running.

I didn't think to look for a fuse, probably because the last time I used the jack the battery was still charged. I will look for that. There is no shut off switch for the battery.

Jack worked when conntected to tow vehicle. Not so much after

Being a first time owner of a Keystone trailer.

I hooked up to a camp site for a month to do my due diligence.

LED light did NOT work But jack worked while setting it in, So I said well, I can fix that.

After unhooking, I had NO jack power.

Have heard that the ground for Jack is from the frame. After taking it apart and messing up the up and down switch, I decided to buy a whole new one.

It is due to arrive today and well let you know how I made out but I saw a video on sanding the frame where the Jack bolts to the frame to make the ground connection. We shall see.
