Replacing a sharkbite fitting

Hello to all,


When we tried to reconnect our water system (all off grid) to our 5th Wheel, Keystone Alpine, one of the valves in the bedroom closet blew apart (flooding part of the floor). Does anyone have suggestions on what would be the best way to replace/remove a sharkbite fitting wihtout having to cut it off? I'm attaching pictures.

If the year of the trailer is 2011 what kind of SharkBite connections does it have? I don't see rings. If they have been added later and they are push on there is a little collar at the bottom of the fitting that you push upward as you slide the fitting off. They make a tool for that but you don't really have to have one.

In that picture there are no Shark Bite fittings. They all appear to be compression, loose the nut & pull them apart.

“in the picture you posted the valve handle blew off..if you saved it and it’s not damaged it may screw back on but i’d still replace it…the 2 nd photo is a replacement compression valve ..yours should come apart the same way…try holding the nut circled and turn the faucet valve counter clockwise to separate it..you may be able to screw the new valve to the old nut.

Get yourself a pressure regulator to avoid putting too much pressure on the water system

No kidding, apparently that is where we could have hooked up a washer and dryer...Which we haven't done. Totally agree with you...kind of weird to have carpet in there, plus it's quite an ugly carpet

Could have, should have, would have, but heck: I didn't even know it was in there!!!! Obviously I have no clue as to what I'm doing or what surprises this 5th wheel brings. Duh...

There is an orange ring used to go around the tube and assist with depressing that release collar.
HD, Lowes, big box stores carry them for 1/2”, 3/4”, PEX. Just get what you need.
It will still be stiff to release but this will release the sharkbite.

Note: Sharkbite installs may appear seated but pipe really has to be seated deep into sharkbite. It doesn’t snap but you get familiar with the feel.

Good thing Sharkbites are reuseable.

I would never install a Sharkbite fitting anywhere that is not in plain sight. They are generally a good fitting, but they can and do fail, sometimes spectacularly. I had one fail in my stick house that a previous owner had used to put a piece of Pex pipe to join two pieces of copper pipe in the kitchen ceiling. The fitting blew off 2 days before Christmas, we weren't home. A hot water line no less. $38,000 and 3 months later, we moved in.

As noted by others already, the OP doesn’t have shark bite fittings.
