Backup camera
Thanks all for the welcome! I am looking at a backup camera and cougar has a sticker saying pre-wired for backup cam but under the little cover is just the marker lights wiring without a plug in jack. Do I have to splice into those? There are two crimp style wirenuts there but all the videos show an actual plug there. Anybody else have this?

Welcome and congrats. Did you buy it new or used? The camera mount should have a LRE wired connection for the brand of camera it is wired for. If it’s new, let your dealer fix it under warranty. If it’s used, it’s possible a previous owner modified it for a different brand camera. That’s actually pretty common since many were prewired for Furrion and many people don’t want to spend the $$$ on those.

Backup cam
Thanks, it's a new rv, but way too far away for this little thing. All I have are two wires that are interrupted with wire nuts that I guess they want me to introduce my camera wiring to. Do all the brands come with bare wires that I can connect to these?

Yes. The cameras are pretty basic, hit and ground 12v wire. The wires are connected to the marker lights so you will need to have your lights on in the truck for power, daytime running
Lights don’t work. Basically, if the rv marker lights aren’t on, the camera isn’t on.
I’ll go back on one statement I made. For some reason I had it in my head that the Furrion camera had a connector that plugged in. It doesn’t. You just connect it to the two wires like any other camera. Sorry for the confusion.

Backup cam
Thank you for the advice. One more question since you are very knowledgeable, my wiring has one white and one white with green stripe. Would the green striped wire be ground?

Unless Furrion has changed recently, the camera does have a short pigtail with a plug end.

Any reason why I should pay twice as much for Furrion?

The green stripe is probably a ground, but verify.
I personally didn’t spend the money on a Furrion. They do have better range (in independent testing). I had some issues with signal loss on my camera when I first bought it, fixed that with an antenna that had a 40’ cable. Put a metal plate on the roof of my 5th with wheel bearings the front cap. Now the two antennas are about 10’ apart, no more issues. Originally they were about 45-50’ apart.
I thought the Furrion had a connector, but it’s been awhile and I started doubting myself. Looked them up on line and all the pics I saw showed a bare wire. Maybe they changed as a cost cutting move. Or maybe the pigtail was causing problems. If you think about it, it’s just one more connection to go bad, still needs to be wired to the rv harness, why wire the pigtail instead of wiring the camera wires?

White is usually ground in RV lingo, white with any color tracer is usually hot.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the other way around on older RVs? Not sure when that became the standard, but I seem to remember an old one that was the other way around? The OP has a 22 year old trailer. Either way, I’d verify regardless of what I’m working on.
