MONTANA HIGH COUNTRY 365BH Fifth A/C

Seriously considering a 2019 365BH Fifth wheel. I see that the rear unit seems to have the 'whisper quiet' A/C configuration, but the returns are ONLY in the bunk house in the back of the coach. Wondering if the central living area cools well since there are no A/C returns. Will be traveling in the southern US with this unit.

One set of returns usually indicates only 1 ac. If purchasing a 5er of that size DO NOT buy it with only have 1 ac, it will NEVER be enough air conditioning regardless if you go south or not. Two acs is the absolute minimum on any rv 30-32' or more.

The unit does of two A/Cs. My question is about the rear AC and only having whisper quiet returns in the rear bunk house, not in the main living area. The return for the second A/C is in the main bedroom.

Your last sentence should be "of concern"...

You say you'll be travelling in the south. If that means you'll be parked in the south, you likely won't have problems, but if you'll be "TOWING" in the south during the hot months, then the residential refrigerator may be of concern. Read the caution in the owner's manual about operating limitations for the refrigerator.

"By design, these refrigerators will not operate properly when indoor air temperatures exceed approximately 110 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, operating the refrigerator in these conditions could cause compressor failure which may not be considered warrantable. Leave the air conditioner set at a temperature below this if the refrigerator is left running in a vehicle that is not being used or shut it off."

When towing across south Louisiana in July, with the sun hitting any travel trailer, the interior temperatures will rise significantly above that "danger zone". There's no "effective way" to keep interior temperatures in the safe range while towing. That means, don't run the refrigerator or ?????

As for A/C air returns and "even cooling throughout the coach", remember that almost all previous A/C systems only have one return (on the face of the ceiling cover) and that the furnace only has one air return, the A/C return is a source of noise and the "whisper quiet system" seeks to eliminate noise from the living areas. by placing the air conditioner outside the "roof vent" (typical installation location) and routing all return air to a location away from the main living area. Chances are you won't notice a reduction in cooling effectiveness based on remote air return vents.

Thanks for the quick reply and information on both items. We have a TT now that has a residential fridge and we don't run when towing. Was just concerned that closing the door on that bunk house where the returns are would not allow even cooling since there are no returns in the main living area. Guess we could just leave the doors open as much as possible.

Thanks,
Chris

Once you get into the trailer and close the bunkroom door, you'll probably find that there's "more than adequate" airflow under it. Most RV doors are cut 2" short for that reason. Typically, return airflow is not an issue unless you're the "tuck a towel under the door and weatherstrip the inside door frames" kind of guy. I don't ever recall a comment in any thread on the forum about ineffective return air in a whisper quiet system.

The returns are usually directly under each of the acts, so the rear returns are for the rear ac only, they are not connected to the front ac, it has it's own returns. As stated I seriously doubt you'll notice any difference in cooling with the door opened or closed.
