Battery relocation?

I am thinking about relocating my batteries. Currently two, mounted on the tongue. They reside in boxes that are far from weather proof. I am thinking about relocation into the pass through.
Any thoughts on this? Are there some down sides I am failing to consider? I would have to drill some holes to run the wires through, and then seal them up.
Thanks for any input. I get nervous when I start drilling holes through the camper. Never sure what I will find.

The battery boxes need to be vented to the outside so you need to take that into account.

There are several options for weather tight battery boxes if that is the primary concern. May be an option to relocating, venting and rewiring your existing location. I would think access to the batteries for maintenance would suffer if located in the passthrough.

I have a single gr 31 on the tongue of our trailer. When I went to that size (shortly after buing the trailer) it required a larger box. When I installed the box I drilled a few 1/4" in the bottom. Haven't had any issues with water accumulation or corrosion. I do remove cable connections, including the ground to frame and clean them every spring.

Not sure the passthrough would be the best option with FLA batteries. They would require a tightly sealed box vented outside to keep any/all of the gassing off fumes from entering any living area.
I'd find a better box capable of handling any size batteries you chose & keep it installed on the tongue for safety reasons & ease of maintenance.
If your concern is theft prevention throw a chain & lock around the box. Honestly it's of no harm to the batteries if they are exposed outside other than being dirty. The battery on your tow vehicle is somewhat exposed to the elements & isn't harmed.
