Typical OEM Keystone Factory A/C Ductwork

The newer Keystone units coming out of the factory have tossed quality control right into the trash can these days…

Images from new 2021 Keystone Alpine..
NOTE… these 3 images are typical of every unit coming out of the factory right now.. we’ve seen TEN brand new Alpine’s with this type of less than stellar duct seal work under the A/C units

It’s an easy check to perform.. remove A/C cover, remove four lag bolts from base of A/C unit..

Have a couple of thick towels and lift the unit up and over onto the towels so you don’t damage the roof TPO

No wires need to be disconnected to accomplish this

Pics of what you will find…

Last two pics are the reseal work..a roll of aluminum HVAC tape and some quality sealant will open these ducts up and allow your A/C unit to breath and work much much better

I'd be curious how many units ended up like this. Obviously the person applying the foam either didn’t know it was expanding or didn't understand what expending foam is. I can see how it got thru QC as it's applied, then covered over. They can't possibly have a QC inspector watching everyone every moment. They should however do some random sampling which could have at least identified the issue.

Now the "big question" will Keystone step up and recall or just take it case by case as warranty hoping the folks don't figure it out until the warranty has expired. I think we can all make an educated guess on this one.

With so many Keystone late model units coming out with this kind of workmanship someone needs to climb up on the roof and inspect and place his inspection seal on the work before the A/C is installed..

I might expect to see this on Billy Bobs RV but in a brand new top of the line Keystone fifth wheel this is nothing more than “ Hurry up and turn them out” mindset..

My 2014 isn’t built like this

Thatis what mine looked like. Foam blocking airflow. Coils frozen solid no airflow. Hot inside. Cleaned out foam, taped up plenum. All good now. Back unit not too bad flowing ok. 2021 Alpine. You would think the ac installer would see that mess.
