Fuel Panic! Colonial Pipeline Hack
Well folks, it looks like the same idiots that caused the tp shortage is out "topping off" their tanks so they can work from home. This SHOULD only effect the SE states but you kjow how that goes. The news media is ofcourse feeding the panic and "cashing in" on the concern, just like the oil companies immediatly raise prices anytime someone says the "S word" (shortage, get your mind out of the black tank )
Don't know if this will impact travel this weekend but be aware of what's happening out here on the right coast. I was looking at Gas Buddy app and aparently it's crashed, I imagine by excess traffic. Stay calm, stay safe, and enjoy.

Dang glad we got back home last week.
I have a cousin touring in the Carolinas. She has almost ran out of gas once, so far. Cutting her trip short and trying to get back to Louisiana.
Being in Houston doesn't spare us the stupidity of the media regarding energy. Two local TV anchors described the pipeline as carrying OIL to and from the northeast. Idiots. Pretty faces, no brains.

Same with "Line 5" across the Straits just north of us. Many people are "afraid of an oil leak causing irreparable damage to the Great Lakes" and are calling for an immediate shutdown... What they "fail to realize" is that pipeline is the only supply for LPG from the lower peninsula to the eastern half of the upper peninsula. If the pipeline is shut down, the only way to get propane to heat the homes and run the businesses in much of the UP is to "truck it across the bridge"... LPG is "hazardous cargo" and requires special handling when trucked over the bridge, which would "effectively shut down the bridge over the Straits" causing a critical transportation problem for everything, including passenger car travel between the two halves of Michigan... Not to mention that $7 sheet of plywood that's currently $35 would then cost $65 because with LPG going across the bridge, nothing else can be "trucked at the same time" because of the hazardous cargo safety requirements.....
Sort of a 12 gauge pointed right at the top of every person's right shoe......

If people are dead set on shutting down or banning something why don't do so with ALL the current news medias til they can learn to report honest factual information not just political BS or the sky is falling type crap.
We don't watch any news anymore, got tired of listening of how many people got shot by some idiot in a school or mall, again all the political BS & nothing about any good news anywhere.

^^Yep, just getting started good.
John, on the scale of things hydrocarbon wise, LPG would be about the best to leak except nat gas. But, it's a big but, it's heavier than air and settles low and usually finds an ignition source. Is the pipeline on the lake bed or supported on the bridge structure?

We have been on the road in the south east for over a month now. Finally on our way home and every station around us (Virginia Beach) is out of gas. "gas buddy" is being used so much it errors out 80% of the time. Thank goodness I have diesel, plenty of availability.
Media is really hyping this!

After this past winter I'd bet there's a lot of Texans that have a different opinion on all these anti fossil fuel "Green" energy sources. Also betting there's a good many of them still trying to recover from it.

Last the virus kept people home. This year gas what the hell. In our town only 2 gas stations still open and I’m sure they will be out soon. All towns around us have none. Major cities Raleigh, Charlotte reporting out or almost out.

We burned up the back panel in our fire place burning mesquite (burns REAL HOT) which wasn't split enough; chunks were BIG. We burned through a ton of cedar which burns quick. Our chimney sweep just got done replacing the masonry back panel as a result. I had already fixed our one broken pipe which was an outside hose bib. I had shut off the well pump just after power went out (for four days) so it was fine. Both my neighbors (2 of the 3 other families on our road) had there wells out with broken stuff. I will say that all the cactus bloomed real pretty in the past week or two probably something to do with the the blizzard of a couple months ago.

Absolutely correct... they, people and media, are sadly misinformed... big difference between raw oil and LPG...

Danny might drive a Chevy and I might drive a Ford, but one thing we agree on "We don't watch any news anymore, got tired of listening of how many people got shot by some idiot in a school or mall, again all the political BS & nothing about any good news anywhere."
And this is no exaggeration.

The current pipeline is installed on concrete pillars mounted on the bedrock on the lake floor. The "new line 5" is projected to be installed through a tunnel to be bored 200-250' under the lake in the solid rock strata. They're also raising heck about doing that saying it will be harder to monitor for a spill... Hell, the tunnel is large enough that people can drive electric carts under the pipeline to inspect it and the entire tunnel is liquid tight... The only way anything could "spill into the lake" is if we had an earthquake AND it sheared the bedrock 250' down, exactly over the pipeline tunnel.... Chances of that happening are slim to none. Chances of people freezing to death and/or losing everything because of the inability to heat their homes and businesses is nearly 100%... Seems to me, some groups of vocalists are hell bent on forcing civilization back to the dark ages with charcoal, peat bogs and candles....

Yesterday, Tuesday 05/11/21, I filled up with diesel here in south Georgia. Cost was $3.09 per gallon. Fortunately with my member cash card I got it for $2.99 as I get .10 cent per gallon discount. Just last week it was $2.89 per gallon with the discount.
