fresh water tank -leak??

we have a 2002 keystone sprinter 29 fr. trailer. there is a leak when filling the fresh water tank, but we can not 'see' where. How do we access the tank to find where the leak is coming from?

When filling the tank, is there water coming inside the unit? On the floor or carpet?
Or can you see the water dripping down from underneath the RV?

The FW tank is attached to the underside of the unit which is probably covered by a black, plastic sheet called coroplast. If you loosen and remove a few of the screws holding this sheet in place, so that you can peek "inside", you should be able to see the tank.
The tank may be located near your water pump and kitchen area - Either in the center or rear of the RV (Probably towards the rear).

Look in the area where your water pump is located. Follow the hoses to see if any are loose or cracked. Have someone watch as you are filling. If nothing is found there you will have to look at the tank connections or the tank itself which in most cases are under the trailer and involve removal of some chloroplast under-belly covering. Hope this helps, Hank

thanks for info

thanks for both answers. we had considered the black cover, but it does not look easy to remove as screws are not visible.

Does it leak once it is filled or only while filling? If only while filling it most likely is the fill tubing or vent hose. If leaking from underneath all the time cut a C shaped hole (carefully) in the chloroplast large enough for you to look in where the drain comes out. The leak may be at this drain. You can easily reseal this "Trap-door" with Gorilla tape (available at hardware and home stores) and is done very often by dealers.

it only leaks while filling. The connections are behind the wall inside the storage area (by the head of the bed). we can see the water pump through the small opening in the wall but we can not see any connections. If we cut the black cover underneath will we be able to see any connections or is there another way of viewing them?

There will be at least 2 hose connections on the top of the FW tank. One will go to the pump, the other will be a filler hose. Not sure if there may be also be a vent hose connection as well but this probably would not be leaking.
On our Cougar, we cannot see the actual connections at the top of the tank. All of the hoses "disappear" through the floor. We can see the filler hose connection at the side of the RV but again this disappears as it makes its way down into the tank. The holes in the floor are certainly not large enough to see very much of anything let alone get a hand in there.
I don't believe that there is any way of accessing the tank from the inside.

Using a flashlight and a mirror you should be able to trace the filler, vent and city water hoses up to the inlet from the pump. If you do not see any leaking there (While filling) and the water is only coming from under the trailer it is most likely a faulty tank connection.
I have never had a problem at the tank connections so I would just be guessing if you can see or reach them without dropping the tank. Perhaps another member with experience in this area can chime in. Good luck and keep us posted with your progress, Hank
