We live in NE FL so you wouldn't think we'd need to winterize. But this winter, in spite of the
current balmy weather, has been a zinger. We went camping a few weeks ago (the weather had significantly improved over early January when I winterized) and the FW pump refused to cycle - it remained continuously on.
This wasn't a problem as the location we were going had city water. Today I decided to try to troubleshoot it. My concern was something cracked during the hard freeze, i.e., I didn't winterize (drain) it well enough.
As it turns out, the pump must have developed a vapor lock. Just running the pump normally would provide sufficient back pressure in that it would shut off after a few seconds (with no water running). When I finally decided to open a faucet to see if any water would come out - voila! - it cycled off. No more problem.
I don't know if anyone else has encountered this issue, but I thought I'd pass my experience along.
