sidewinder? Cameras?

Hello,

Just ordered a 2017 XLite 29RES and a Silverado 2500, 6.5 bed.

Two questions. 1. What hitch do I get? Salesperson said with a Cougar you can get away without a side winder or slider (6.5' bed)? He said it will turn 87 degrees without those and 90 with one. Any thoughts? Seems some people complain these hitches are a little noisy. I would like a quiet hitch that is easy enough (weight?) for one person to remove from the truck bed and not take 30 min to do it.

Secondly, any thoughts on a camera system? 1, 2, or three cameras? Wireless? Wired? Brands? Trailer is 33' overall. If you got more than one camera, what is the recommended placement?

Welcome to the forum !!

1) hitch. Sliding hitches come in automatic and manual versions. The manual versions are lighter but require you to get out of the truck to move. The sidewinder attaches to the pin box and moves the pivot point to the box. Weight isn't a consideration as it stays attached to the trailer.

2) Camera system. Wireless is the way to go.

The first question is do I need a sidewinder/slider or can I use regular hitch with the cougar xlite and the 6.5' bed?

Re: sidewinder? Cameras?

We tow our cougar with a sidewinder. Love it. We never have to worry and have had some tight spaces to get into.

Easy way to tell:

Measure from the center of the kingpin to the furthest front edge of trailer.

Them using that measurement, get in the bed of your truck. Place one end 1" forward of the rear axle, centered. See if the tape measure hits the cab.

Re: sidewinder? Cameras?

The new 2500 HDs you can buy wireless camera that will intergrate with the GM system.. probably a little more, however to have it built into the 8" display would be worth it in my mind

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I also just got a 2016 2500.
