Tree sap

Tried looking for a previous thread with no luck. In a beautiful park surrounded by tons of pine trees. Been here a few days with the awning out and in as needed.
This morning, as I was rolling out the awning, I could hear that sound like adhesive being pulled apart. Wasn’t bad but I’m concerned about the build up and how to safely remove it as we’re going to be here for the next five months. Any advice?

Tree sap can be safely removed from auto finishes with alcohol (denatured, not Jack in Black) however that may not help much in an area as large as the awning surface. Sorry, but at least give it a try if nothing else comes along.

Hehehe... good luck finding denatured alcohol right now, but thanks for the tip! I’ll try some on the flap first to see if it dries out the fabric.

I've had good luck with GooGone spray and lots of elbow grease (non-petroleum based elbow grease)… Try it on an inconspicuous spot before spraying the entire top surface of the awning...… Don't use it on the TPO roof.....

I’ll give that a try too. I have some of that on hand. Ya think that’ll be safe on our clear skylight? I’m seeing speckles on the top there.

Stove alcohol if available next choice would be mineral spirits.

WD40 is an amazing oil and tar dissolver. I've used it on the side of my camper and vehicles to remove bugs and tree sap when soaps would not. You might try a small spot and see how it responds to your awning. Just be sure to follow up with some grease removing soap, like dishwashing liquid, which will then remove the WD40 and then rinse the soap real well. Try first on a small area and see if it works for you, and if it's not too much of extensive work.

I’m guessing it’s about 200 sq ft of awning. WD40 does work great for a small area, but I think I’ll try the denatured alcohol first. Thanks for the help!

Used Simple Green concentrate mixed a bit stout in a 1 gallon sprayer, spray on, let sit a few minutes, scrub with a soft to medium bristle brush using auto wash soap & rinse, this worked well parked under trees in Florida & Michigan.
For the awning, saturate as you roll it up with the SG, leave rolled up for 10+/- minutes then scrub with the auto soap, always worked well for me.
