Right vs. Left Side of 5th Wheel

Okay, the dumb question of the day!

When campgrounds say a site will not accommodate left side slides how are they identifying the left side, are you talking driver side of the TV or passenger side?

Not a dumb question at all, and I hope someone has an answer because I'm curious now too.

I've never heard of "left side slides" either ... only *street side* or *curb side*.
Guess we're never too old to learn, huh?!

I'm equally curious!

I've encountered campground owners in the past who have never spent a night in an RV and don't have a clue about them. This might just be one.

The Left side is right, because the Right side is the only one left!!!
Does this clear things up? LOL

"Traditionaly" the automotive, airline, and other (RV), industries have always refered to directions from the view of the nose/front of the vehicle being the leading side when traveling in a forward direction.

Ya might want to call the CG to see what they say is their point of reference "may" be looking INTO the campsite from the roadway.
Thereby reversing things. ie. curbside (passenger side), would be the Left side.

A for real case of "It's all in how one looks at it."

just my opinion... for whatever it's worth (current exchange rates apply);

Right vs left

That, folks, is why sailors never refer to the right or left side of the ship, because it depends on where you are facing. Port (left) and starboard (right) ALWAYS assume that left and right are referenced to an observer facing the bow of the ship.

It is probable that, even though most RVers don't use port and starboard, the same assumption is made. Left and right are referenced to a person sitting in the drivers seat.

IMHO

The only place I have seen this mentioned was some of the older campgrounds in the Fla. keys. Space was at a premium so your left (drivers) side was so close to your neighbor that slides were not allowed. I'm giving away my age but most trailers didn't have slides then and I don't remember any with right (curb, entrance) side slides. Ahhh, the good old days, when everyone was tripping over each other on a rainy day stuck inside.

And all the more reason to stick with "street side" and "curb side" or "driver's side" and "passenger's side", at least here on the North American continent where the grand majority of Keystone products are located.

Cool

Usually sides are spoken from standing behind the vehicle so that the left side is the drivers side and the right side is the passengers side.

Okay, thanks for all the thoughts and opinions. Today I called the Recreation.gov who used the left side terminology on their site and they could not answer the question. I then called the the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park where the campground is, and a very cordial Ranger told me that their use of left side means driver side. I thanked him and suggested they consider changing their designation to driver and passenger side as there does not seem to be a uniform acceptance or understanding of left and right side when referring to RV's.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and opinions.

Howdy All;

Strikes me as funny that a campground would state that their sites do not accomidate Leftside slides. The majority of slides are on the left so it would
appear they are trying to say, if you have a slide don't bother comming here...

ODD.............

I think more are on the right side. I personally have 3 on the right/ curb side and 1 on left/ road side. I think overall the slides are on the right/curb side.

Howdy All;

It's my thought that CG folks tend to look at, which side is which, from the road. When they go around and do site inspections their perspective is from
the road. That is their view of the site.

We look at things from the vehical point-of-view... easy to see how it can get mixed-up once in awhile...

I think left is the driver's side since you enter the RV door on the passenger or right side.
