New truck much higher

I just decommissioned my ‘08 Ford F-250 and realize the bed of the “new” 2017 Ford F-250 is about 6” higher. Am I going to have problems adjusting the hitch and 5 th wheel so it is level? The 5th Wheel is a 2004 Cougar 27.6.

Is it the bed or the bed sides that are higher?

Since your 5th wheel is a 2004 I suspect you'll need to flip the axles, especially if your new F250 is a 4X4..

If I remember correctly... it'll be both the bed floor height and the bed depth.. I think '17 was when they added an inch to the depth. My '15 is 20" deep and the newer ones are 21"

That is a huge change in nine years! was the old unit a 4X2 and the new a 4X4?

When we went from our 2001 Ram 2500 4X4 to our 2016 Ram 3500 4X4 DRW the difference was about one inch.

I agree with Russ. That sure seems like a LOT of change. I was thinking it was around 2"?? Are there other things different between the trucks; 4x4 vs 4x2, oversized tires/wheels, lift/leveling kit??

Thanks for your reply’s....Guess I’ll start with some more measurements. The trucks are identical except for the year and the color, and the ‘17 does have 18” rims vs 17”, but I’ll compare the diameters. Maybe my old truck has just settled that much over the 216,000 miles and i don’t realize it!

The '08 is probably 35" ground to bed with 20" sides

The '17 could be as much as 38"-38.5" with 21" sides..

With your trailer on level ground and level... measure from the bottom of the pin box plate to the ground.. as an example mine is 54"

Then with the truck on level ground measure from the ground to the floor of the bed.. Mine is 34.5"

My B&W hitch can be configured at 19" so 19 + 34.5 = 53.5"

I dropped my pin box to the last hole and got it from 54" to 53"

Just glad my sides are only 20"

Thanks for the guidelines. Seems an other critical measurement is from the front of the camper to the ground on level. If it measures any less than 59+-“ I’m screwed or have to “jack up” the RV.
