Winter coming

Okay experience campers. First winter with a new camper. We reside in North Carolina. This is what I have been doing since our purchase. We return from camping we clean up and empty the camper. I keep it plugged in ac on low. Frig sometimes on other off depends on if we have something in it or not.

Now winter is coming we are going on a 5 day trip end of October to SC. that will probably be the last till after winter. Question is if I leave the 5th wheel plugged with heat on do I need to winterize? 2. If I winterize should I leave camper plugged in over winter? 3. Should I remove the batteries and bring into the house over winter? Any suggestions on other stuff I need to do or not do.

Thank you all

Down here I never really winterize... I drain the tanks, blow the lines out and leave the trailer plugged in to keep the battery charged.

We frequently camp during the winter even when the weather is in the teens at night.. so I rarely unload the fridge of anything that won't ruin in a week or two..

I have never run the a/c or the heater unless we're in the trailer..

Being down south, winterizing might not be as critical as if you were in more northern climes. I can tell you what I do and that may be a bit overkill for your purposes but for sure you won't freeze anything.
Drain all your tanks including your hot water tank. Open your low point drains and let any water run out of those. Now close everything up.
If you have an air compressor, set it to 40 lbs and attach it to your city water input. With the compressor running, open your faucets one at a time, both hot and cold. This will effectively blow any water out of the lines. Then use the compressor to blow out your black tank sprayer.
I then remove and empty the P traps or sometimes just pour RV antifreeze down the drains. Also pour the RV antifreeze in the toilet. Just to be sure everything is good, you could use your fresh water pump to pump RV antifreeze through the lines to protect the pump as well as lines and faucets. This last part may be a bit of overkill for your purposes.
I always remove the batteries and store them in the garage on a trickle charger. Once the Cougar is "winterized" I don't open the door again until spring to prep for next season. I would not consider leaving power hooked up or the propane on. JMHO but bad things can happen when heaters and power are left on and unattended.
