King Pin Lock for SuperGlide

For those that have/had a SuperGlide hitch what king pin lock do/did you use? I know it is rare a 5er or TT are stolen, but I would like to make it a little harder just in case. And have piece of mind.

Well howdy! Smoky up you way? Never heard of anyone trying to lock down a 5th wheel. Only way I know of is a chain and padlock through the pinbox and around your hitch.

The smoke has finally been scrubbed out of the air with the rain we had last night. I’ve seen king pin locks that attach to the pin when unhooked. I’m trying to figure out what people with SuperGlide hitches use since they require a pullrite specific capture plate on the pinbox.

Having the capture plate might be enough deterrent since you need tools to remove it. I have a king pin lock but only used it when I parked my old fiver out front with a for sale sign.

I have a customer out in Washington State who I shipped a parcel to a week ago and he thought it was lost. Called Fedex and the parcel sits in Kansas as air transport is disrupted due to weather; took that to mean smoke. You folks up in the PNW have had a remarkable year so far. Good luck with your lock!

After being evacuated from the Creek Fire, we parked our rig along the street at the FIL’s house, and I have one of those pin locks, and used it until we pulled out. The capture plate does not impede the use of a pin lock.

I can’t imagine what you and your family have been through with the fires. As if the virus wasn’t enough. Hope your family and neighbors are well.

Looks like I’ll be picking up a pin lock next week.

I think the superglide manual suggested you can hang a paddle lock on the opening that the release handle comes through.... it prevents the handle from lifting up, therefore it can’t be released :-)

When the trailer is unhitched, we use a lock very similar to one like this -

https://smile.amazon.com/CURT-23255-...0604802&sr=8-3

While the trailer is connected to the tow vehicle, we use a lock similar to this -

https://smile.amazon.com/Master-Lock...605064&sr=8-14

As a previous poster stated, the lock fits above the opening where the handle release lever passes through the hitch housing. This restricts the lever from being lifted high enough to pull it to the ‘unlocked’ position.

We use similar locks to these as well with our super glide.

I was able to do that with the SuperGlide I had 10 yrs ago, but the way this one is made it doesn’t allow a lock to be attached. The manual says it can be done with only the 16k hitch (#2700), which is what I thought was installed and I paid for. I’ll have to re-look at it. Maybe they installed the 18k hitch.

The 18K hitch will not accept a padlock. We have the 2900ISR, which is the 18K hitch, and I suggested a modification to Pullrite that would add the provision so a lock could be used and they just blew it off.
