Prepping for trip South

Yesterday I retrieved our TT from the RV Park storage, fortunately I know a tow truck operator and he was able to assist me in slowly winching an otherwise stuck trailer out of mother natures' frozen grasp. Note to self next fall insist that I park it on gravel! Finally got it out without damage or staining the suspension, but there was 4" of ice and snow crusted on the roof making it very top heavy. Today my wife and I emptied the house hot water tank water slicing the slabs and floating them off the roof. The water bill may be a steep one this month. Either way the membrane is good and no snow atop to fly off into some poor driver behind us on the first leg of the journey.

Good luck on your trip South. Odd time to be going as you will see Snowbirds coming home and will be scratching their heads wondering who is going the wrong way.LOL

We had things holding us here, otherwise we'd be there already.

Hank, Lynn, Brenda and I are sitting around, having a cold one, discussing which beach we're going to tomorrow. That won't happen in Ontario for another four months. C'mon on down.

If I were you I would try to tough it out in sunny California. Lots of snow back here. LOL

Okay we arrived! Safe and sound, made Red Roof Inn in Sharonville OH the first night after being stuck in a traffic jam near London ON. The Red Roof was an excellent stop, they had a trailer lot and had many food sources close by. By 4:00 pm the following day we pulled into a lovely spot in Roebuck SC (Pine Ridge Campground), staff left our site information taped to the office door. Beautiful washrooms, a quiet park with lots of amenities especially a neat little dog park for the pooches to take care of business off the leash. We left 3 days later after checking all the systems out once de winterized. A couple of things weren't perfect, the outdoor shower ended up being cracked between the valves from water in the shower hose draining back and diluting the antifreeze, and the microwave (HighPoint) failed to work so we have started a customer service ticket for that. And we aquired a new faucet for the shower which I plan to refit this week.

Now a little about route and road warnings. We took I-75 south from Detroit and I have to say I would love to start a GoFundMe account for Michigan as the last 20 miles of the I-75 just before the Ohio boundary loosened my fillings and maybe caused detached retinas!!!!! When I research routes south I read cautions about traveling I-40 to Asheville NC because of the inclines and tight turns. I found that the stretch of I-75 from Lexington to Knoxville were more demanding than I-40 and I was told be the US Customs agent that Altanta GA was in the process of installing Toll stations on all their routes.

We ran I-26 to I-95 and then hit a stretch from Savanaha to south of Jacksonville that pounded us with 50 mph crosswinds that tossed us around pretty good. But we rolled into Compass RV Campground in St Augustine and would recommend this place to those looking for an old park being restored by serious new owners nestled in a historic city offering tonnes of stuff to do... and to boot they have a General Dollar on site too!!!
