Solid top counter top

I have a solid counter top in the kitchen that has acquired numerous small shallow scratches. I was thinking of using rubbing compound to get them out. Has anyone tried this or something else to remove the scratches.
Also is there something I can seal the counter top with to help protect the counter top from getting these scratches?

I have removed scratches from numerous solid surface counter tops.

We use 800 grit and "wet" sand the scratches. Then follow up with a good rubbing compound and a random orbital polisher.

If you only have slight scratches, then the rubbing compound alone will probably work. I don't know of and treatments for the surface other than dish towels.

We had a small area that developed some fine scratches, not sure what caused it. I just grabbed a tube of toothpaste and a wet sponge, applied some toothpaste and used the sponge to rub out the area. No more scratches. It has to be normal toothpaste, not the gel type. It actually worked so well, I was tempted to rub out the entire top because it looked so much better than the rest of the top.

I like that toothpaste idea. A minty fresh counter top sounds nice
