Stupid muddobbers

I consider myself somewhat of an avid reader of this forum, I've made a few posts but I browse the forum daily. How I missed info on muddobbers and AC I don't know. While at my daughters soccer game this weekend I get a frantic text from my wife that the AC unit sounds like it is going to vibrate off the roof. A couple hours later I was able to get up and check it, sure enough the fan is bouncing around horribly off balance. After removing the shroud there are several wasps nests, minus the wasps thankfully and almost a baseball size muddobber nest on one of the blades. Once removed it ran fine. That will teach me to skip over threads I don't deem very interesting. At least it was an easy fix.

Had mud daubers build a 'nest' on the igniter of my furnace one year. That tends to render the furnace inoperative. I now have screens on the vents of my furnace, water heater, and fridge.

Those I have taken care of. I just never thought about the AC.

When I was little, my grandparents and other relatives would paint their porch ceilings light blue to prevent wasp and dobbers from building nests. They said the light blue tricks insects into thinking it's the sky. It seemed to work, so I painted my AC fan light blue about 1 1/2 years ago and so far, a few wasp and dobber nests on the plastic cover and on the wiring, but nothing on blades.
