Residential Refrigerator

My SIL has a 2017 Cedar Creek 5th wheel that has a residential frig w/ice maker. He has fill the fw tank with his bleach and water. Ask me if he should run the bleach and water thru the ice maker to sanitize it. I told him I don't know and I would ask on the forum and find out for him. He just bought this unit 3 weeks ago and sold his other 5th wheel. So this new to me and him. Thanks for any help. DDG.

Very small amounts of water flow through the ice maker, so if he did, it would take a lot of trays to get the solution there and then a lot of trays to rinse it out.

Would I do it? Probably not. If you can get to the back of the fridge where the water line connects, you could remove it, turn in the pump to flush it, and I would cap it while you do the rest of the system. Then take the cap off when you rinse and hook it back up after. YMMV

Residential Frig

Thanks for the reply chucker57. He has the valve shut off from when it was winterized. I just talk to him and he will not open the valve for the ice maker until he is done flushing the system. Thanks. DDG

It would be a chore but it could be done. First, there should be a separate low point drain for the ice maker line and at least one cut-off. The cut-off for mine is in the island and the low point drain is under the entry steps. I also have a fitting under the kitchen slide outside that I take apart to facilitate the line to drain.

If I were going to flush it I'd First cut the valve off and drain the line, the after filling the FW tank with the bleach solution I'd turn the valve back on and leaving the water pump on so the ice maker could fill.
I'd let it cycle all night and then drain all the solution by repeating the earlier process then flush and throw out the first day's ice.

If it were me, I'd just sanitize the trailer plumbing system (omitting the ice maker) and then after the system is operational and flushed, I'd turn on the refrigerator and ice maker, fill the ice bin and toss that out the door. I'd suspect that after 8 or 10 trays have dumped, most anything in the refrigerator line has been flushed and is as clean as it's going to get.
