Our new camper came without an outside door latch to hold it open. The door is very stiff to close and I think is supposed to keep the door open, but it doesn't. I'm tired of the door slamming shut in the breeze. Can I install a door latch? All the instructions I see are to replace an existing door latch. How can I tell where to drill holes? What kind should I install?

You can add the door latch, metal will last longer. Best way is to hold the slot piece on the door at the lower edge, open the door and make sure the hook doesn’t interfere with anything.

If you look at the exterior J wrap, the top edge that’s tucked into is called the belt line. As a rule it’s solid just above it and if it coincides with the door frame you should be okay. If possible at least 2 of the screws in the door should be through the frame since the door is just styrofoam with a metal frame.
