Goose Island

Well, we have reservations for 5 nights at Goose Island in mid October. After watching the news tonight, I wonder if there will even be a Goose Island? Heart goes out to all the folks in the path of Harvey.

Yep.. would enjoy visiting with y'all too...

After watching the live feed of KRIS TV in Corpus all day today, it looks like it may be some time before it's back to normal down there.. you should call the park directly at 361-729-2858.... I'm sure the phones will be out for a week or more so you might wait a bit.. 300K + people without electric.. and all cell towers down..

As a note... Port A and Aransas Pass are pretty much flattened also... structures that have stood through countless hurricanes over the past 60 / 100 years are destroyed..

Thanks for posting the direct phone number. We'll call when we are on our way to the Balloon Fiesta. Worst case we'll visit San Antonio then find something else to do in Texas.

Goose Island update:
Just received an e-mail from Jamie Fitch at Texas Wildlife and Parks Dept.
Goose island SP will closed for the rest of the year. They hope to open again on 1/1/18. Reservations made within the last 90 days will be credited back to your credit/debit card within 3 to 5 business days. Reservations made prior to the 90 days will be fully refunded by check - allow 5 to 6 weeks for the refund. They warn not to cancel online as that will trigger a cancellation fee.
Nice to see a state agency step up with the automatic refund.
We are, of course, disappointed that we won't get to enjoy the Gulf Coast - maybe next year.
We tend to think we are in control until Mother Nature gets aggravated and shows us who is really the boss.

Thanks for the update. There are a lot of forum members who "winter" in south Texas. This year may be "slim pickin's" for those seeking a place around Houston/Galveston. I'm not sure what will be available or even if there will be any RV spaces around that area.

It's certain that now is not the time to make any firm commitments in that area. It'll be "touch and go" for this winter and possibly much longer.

Got the same e-mail... Kinda figured it was coming after I saw several friends posting photos of the destruction... Many in the area wiped out.. Port Aransas, Aransas Pass and Rockport are for all intents and purposes flattened... I've read the letters of the mayors and 80% to 100% of structures are beyond repair..
