Brakes & Bushings

How do I know what size brakes I need to order? what do I measure to order the entire back plates, brakes and all?
Also I will be ordering new axle bushing kits, are they all the same size?

I would start by looking on the axle to see if there is a manufacturer and part number. You could then contact the manufacturer about the correct bearings and seals or you can disassemble one of the hubs and get the part numbers from the old parts.
Should you get the complete backing plate with brakes you will still have to deal with the hub bearings, seals etc.
If you are not comfortable with this process I would suggest having a professional do the job.

I would suggest getting the information from the data sticker on the particular axle you want to repair. There is a lot of info here regarding maintenance.

Do I need to remove the drum to find the sticker. I would like to think I could take it all apart and reassemble the same day. Just to keep it fresh in my mind for what little I have left.

There is a sticker on the axle tube, just about in the middle.
Quite often 6 lugs are 12" and 5 lugs are 10".

Not sure what you mean by axle bushings. Maybe bearings? If you don't have a background of mechanical repair you may consider hiring a mechanic.

It will be the spring bushing, axle bearings and seals and complete brake plates with forward adjusting brakes. I am very comfortable doing the work. I just hate ordering the wrong "stuff". I did find the sticker on the axle, thank you for that. Trying to cross the T's.

I have a Dexter axle and I emailed their customer service dept with the axle S/Ns and they provided a list of all the serviceable components. Something to consider.
