Fix It

I just found an addition to the trailering repair kit. The manly solution...

Re: Fix It

Wow! We used to use that stuff in the telco business. It was called armorcast if I recall. It IS good stuff. I've never seen it in a store and always wondered why it wasn't sold commercially (or if it was I've not seen it).

Re: Fix It

I've used a product that's a "sister act" for this. It's fiberglass casting tape and makes an awesome fiberglass orthopedic cast. I used to always keep a couple of rolls in my "first aid kit" (tool chest) in the truck, a couple rolls in the trailer and a couple rolls at home. Unfortunately, it's hard to find outside the medical community and doesn't store well over time. Every roll I had only lasted a year or so before it became "hard in the package" and was useless. The orthopedic style is a "wide open weave cloth" and this looks to be a "close weave cloth" adaption. It should be awesome around the RV.

So, it's great to see something similar for sale on the "hardware market". I'm putting this on my list for the next trip to HD. My only reservation is to wonder how long it'll last "unopened in the container" ???? From past experience, products like this are great for emergency repairs, but don't store well for the "long haul". I'm guessing it'll probably become an "annual purchase" ???

I think the "in box" longevity with this kind of product would probably depend on where you live and the humidity since it depends on moisture to activate. The stuff we had lasted a few years in the box before I used it, but we live in a place where the humidity averages about 10%. It does work though. I mended a split shovel handle (my favorite shovel) with the armorcast and it was like new and lasted many more years.

Re: Fix It

NASCAR now uses a product called Bear/Bare Bond instead of duct tape. They seem to really like it.
