LED bulbs

Do people replace the original bulbs with LED bulbs because they are brighter and use less power?

We changed ours mainly because they use less power (someone posted that LED lights use something like 1/10 the power of incandescent. The brightness will depend on the lumens and the perceived brightness will depend on the frequency (color) of the LED. You can get LED lights that are very, very harsh white or a softer, more yellow light that will match the incandescent bulbs. There is a sticky about LEDs that is very informative, or, do a forum search. There have been many threads regarding LED replacement lights.

X2 In addition to the sticky which can be found in the Modifications and Upgrades section, there are pages of threads about LED's and dozens of posts - all of which can be found using the search feature.

Ok, what is a sticky? Thanks for the info. I'll check at Lowes tomorrow .

A "Sticky" is a tutorial that is designed to provide basic information about a particular subject - in this case, LED lights. Look at it as a miniature "lesson" and is used on forums as a more or less permanent reference for those wanting to find out information about a topic.
By referring you to a sticky, it saves members from having to provide basic information about the topic each time a question is asked.

The LED sticky is, as mentioned previously, is found near the top of the thread list in the Modifications and Upgrades section of the forum.

I switch for 2 reasons.

Main reason was the heat created by the other bulbs. They get really hot and having 2 kids and how forgetable they are we were afraid they would leave one on by accident.

2nd was the power draw and how much of a difference there is.

I bought mine off of Amazon which is a little more exspensive than the others on EBAY but I knew exactly hwat I was getting...

Thanks for all the help and info....I can do a few things on this PC but being born in 1948, that should tell you something . I will surly get the LED bulbs, makes good sense.

I am in the process of converting mine over to LED now. I bought 6 on Amazon just to see how it worked and I was pleased enough that I will convert the rest. One thing I noticed with mine was that they do have a polarity, so if you plug in the bulbs and they don't work, turn them over.

The reason for possibly having to flip is because most led's have a proper polarity placement but there are some now avail that don't matter.....
An LED is a Light Emitting Diode.
A standard diode allows current to travel in one direction, that's why most led's have a positive and negative.

We did ours as mentioned above heat and power. I also added 12volt usb stations in my bunks for the kids to charge tech stuff.

I switched for the lower power consumption but mostly because the OEM bulbs got so hot that the fixture would be hot to the touch. When I pulled the cover off to look at the factory bulbs, the socket base for the bulb had been singed on almost all the fixtures. I replaced all with the ones below from amazon.com. I think there were 18 in all and the cost was about $80 for all of them.
