Replacement/Upgrade for Xantrex Inverter

So I am an idiot and reversed polarity when hooking up my batteries and killed the stock Xantrex Freedom 2000 inverter. Since I need to replace it should I just go with the original or is there an upgrade/better value someone can recommend? I mainly use it for the TV and not much else. Thanks!

Did you kill the inverter or maybe just blow a fuse?

Step 6: Connecting the DC Cables

NOTICE

REVERSE POLARITY
Check cable polarity at both the battery and the Freedom X before making the final DC connection. Positive must be connected to positive; negative must be connected to negative.

Reversing the positive and negative battery cables will blow a fuse in the Freedom X and void your warranty.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment
damage.

So it looks like there is a fuse that likely blew. The $750 question is whether that fuse is accessible and replaceable? It appears that the warranty is voided anyway now, so why not remove the cover and see if it is an easy fix and save yourself some $$$

Good point. I can't find any reference online as to where that fuse would be but can't hurt to try.

I found this on an "internet electronics help line"...

I would be happy to help you with that. There are no user serviceable fuses inside of the unit. There are 5, 25 amp, fuses soldered to the main circuit board if you decide to take it all apart. But the fuses are soldered to the circuit board, and most people do not have the skills to solder fuses on to the main board. Typically what you would do is send it in for service.

Since the unit is "no longer in warranty" and isn't working in the current condition, there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to take the cover off, look for "soldered on fuses" on the circuit board. If you're reasonably experienced in soldering, it's not a difficult task to unsolder and replace those "glass cartridge fuses"... Just be sure to KEEP EXCESS HEAT AWAY from the circuit board, since heat can also "unsolder or damage" nearby components.

If you don't have the experience in soldering, look around your neighborhood for someone with a "HUGE" antenna on their roof. Any ham radio operator would have the experience and the tools to help you out. Many will do it for free, or just charge a "token amount" to help a neighbor.....

GOOD LUCK !!!!!
