What is it?

Is it a gas shut off? What happens if I turn it?

That’s the slide override. Watch it while someone operates the slide and you can watch it turn.

I had thought it was in a different location, but I can see you're right. It just looked to flimsy to be pushing a slide in and out. It must be geared very low.

It is attached to a shaft sticking out of the gearbox. They don’t always align perfectly with the hole in the frame so there is some wiggle room.
