Need Hitch Advice

Just got a 2011 327RES Cougar I need a hitch for a 2013 Dodge Ram Crew cab Short Box .. I was thinking I would need a sliding hitch but saw a Reese Revolution.. Has anyone tried these ? Or anyone with the same truck with hitch suggestions. I want to get something that won't break my bank of very limited resources, but will do a good job.
Thank you

Re: Need Hitch Advice

I run the same setup. I already had a B&W gooseneck so choose to run the Andersen Ultimate Aluminum for weight reasons mainly. It is sitting on the truck in the picture landing legs just off those blocks. The pin box is extremely close to the tailgate, but clears and has had plenty of truck to cap room in any situations I've been into so far. I should be heading out this weekend if you want any specific pictures of the setup.

Re: Need Hitch Advice

No, I run the Andersen Hitch linked below to a B&W gooseneck turn over ball. Only one hole in the bed, and when the hitch is not in use it is only 35 LB's to remove. Also saves almost 150 LB's of payload the rough weight of a passenger in the vehicle. Configured the way I have it the PIN sits a little behind the axle, pin box within a 1/2 inch of touching the tailgate. That gives the maximum cap to cab clearance for turning sharp. Most that have scaled configured this way see a reduction of about 150 LB's off the front axle.

Re: Need Hitch Advice

Thanks everyone I too happened upon a used auto sliding hitch today and will pick it up this weekend and get it installed. Seems the 2013 Dodge 2500 was different then what came before or after..
I know I will have lots more questions soon

I'm running a Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 21,000 lbs in a 2016 Ram 3500 short bed. Works great.

Re: Need Hitch Advice

There may be other opinions but Reese does not recommend using the revolution or sidewinder with any hitch configuration that adapts to a gooseneck attachment due to the lever action of moving the pivot poimt. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: Need Hitch Advice

I have the B&W companion hitch non slider in a F250 6.5 foot bed and never had any problems on my 12,000 mile trip across the U.S. I visited about 26 cities so I hooked and unhooked many times made sharp turns without any cab issues.

Re: Need Hitch Advice

A friend of mine has the Pin box that pivots and not the Pin that hooks to the hitch and I was thinking of getting the new Pullrite Ball hitch for my long bed and I have the standard Pullrite none movable hitch but it is heavy to remove.
Reese St400 Sidewinder Turret is my friends for a short bed.

Re: Need Hitch Advice

I ended up finding a used Pullrite.. heavy is an understatement for these hitches.. I think its about 200 lbs. But is pretty neat the way it works.
Thank you everyone for your help and advice. I get the unit home next week , be prepared for more questions

Re: Need Hitch Advice

The pullrite is great, but weighs like 300 lbs. To get mine out of the back of my superduty, I got a 120 volt winch from harbor freight. I bolted it to my garage ceiling and with some straps, it can lift it up and i drive the truck out from underneath it.

I will need to rig something up that's for sure, or get a very strong girl friend.. I like the simplicity of the way it works. Will be testing it out tomorrow to bring the fiver home

Re: Need Hitch Advice

Just to report in. Brought my fifth wheel home and looking at the set up when coupled together I'm pretty sure with the shape of the trailer I could have gotten by with a non sliding hitch. But this way I'm covered..
Thanks again everyone for all your replies
